And I have to tell everyone about it.

Yesterday I was hauling my event equipment around (three printers, laptop, two cameras, paper, ink, tables, etc.) on a cart. I hit a bump in the sidewalk and one of the Rubbermaid tubs with a Canon i960 inside went flying off the front. It fell about three feet and landed on the concrete. The tub literally shattered down one side and everything spilled out.

I was less than excited.

Plugged it in today. Didn't blow up when I turned the power on. Cycled through a cleaning okay. And prints pictures just as nicely as it ever did!

Anybody else around here in the habit of dropping their equipment? Dropping the printer didn't stop my heart like the time I dropped my loaded camera bag, but I had to share my incredulity that the printer still runs. (Nothing was harmed in the camera bag incident either, thank goodness.)

That rubbermaid is good stuff :-) Seriously... The container took the brunt of the shock and sacrificed itself so your printer might live. Next time try dropping the printer unprotected, and kiss it goodbye...

Robt.

I was kneeling and adjusting something one time and didnt' realize I was standing on my camera's neck strap (I never have it around my neck) when I stood up it ripped the camera out of my hand and it hit the concrete garage floor. Luckily it hit the add on wide angle lens and just dented that to the point that I can't add filters to it, no damage to the camera...big time sigh of relief.

They give printers away free these days.
Just don`t drop the ink cartridge!

Remind me not to let you borrow my camera! :p

I've had my camera on the floor of the car before when a drink spilled over while I was driving. No damage, but boy did I grab it quickly. (It doesn't go down there any more!) I've also put memory sticks through the wash and had them work fine.

I actually saw an article recently where they put all type of memory cards in the wash and dryer and very few had problems retaining their memory. Good to know.

How about the pictures recovered from the camera found on the beach after the tsunami? Amazing!

Yes, well, I've never denied that I'm pretty much a klutz (in a graceful sort of way?). Around here, we have a saying "First we drop it, and then we kick it," and I do things like that all the time. Fortunately, everything expensive has been spared. Except for the time when we had the booth set up inside a tent which got flipped inside out by wind... But even then we didn't lose anything but the tent.

I saw the article about the memory cards too, and have been paranoid that I would put cards through the wash ever since. Regardless of how well they fare, I'd rather not wash my Lexar Gold gig card. That thing was too dang pricey when I got it to be whipping it in with the wash.

Wow, I am impressed my Sony printer went "desk surfing" a few months ago after getting caught in a paper avalanche and died, and that was only about 2-3ft onto carpet.

One time
I took a old school printer from a garbage dumpster
And then smashed it with my friends
While video taping

...

Anyone want copies? :-)

Dropped a brand new 17" CRT monitor (not mine!). The inside came out of the casing. Forced it all together again, clicked it into place and four years later it still works. :)

Back about 6 years ago i spent 3 months traveling through SE asia. about 1 month into the trip we were on Koh Phangan (an island in thailand), staying on the north side of the island called "bottle beach". The only way to get there is by foot (several hours through hot humid jungle) or by "long boat".
Well we weren't walking.
So it's monsoon season, and a really nasty storm is whipping through the gulf of thailand. We are in a long boat with about 10 other tourists. The swells are so damn big and everyone is super scared. You know it's bad when the old islander (very old) who's steering the boat looks nervous.
Anyways, long story short. The boat tipped.
My camera bag with it.
Nikon F5 and all the lenses.
I'm bummin.
Literaly crying.
The next morning it's a crisp sunny blue day. I hire some divers to get my bag. 30 feet down in the coral, and it wasn't easy to find. I travel by private motor boat to the island to the south (there is a small airport there) and get a flight to bangkok that day. In Bangkok the have a Nikon headquarters (it's not Nikon there, it's pronounced Knee-Kon)

$30 and one day later my camera and lenses have been professionally cleaned and repaired!

That's the worst drop experience for me.

That's pretty bad, but amazing that everything still worked!
