This group is amazing. I thought for a bit there it was just my imagination but it is true. This group has a definte motif that wins here.

Below is just one example of the recurring theme that wins here. If its not a cutsy ootsy baby or a nice seascape with some rocks on the beach then forget about it your getting a 4 or 5. I feel sorry for all the photographers that try to break the mold on this site.

All of the following have scored in the top 3 over the last 2 months. Makes me feel like I should hop over to Capri and take a shot of the rocky beach there. I might win a competition...

or move to Oregon, which is where all of these pics are from.

It's sort of a "Mass Hysteria" or "Group Mentality" type of thing.. when something does well to begin with.. photos of that type suddenly see a surge in popularity. This can be a large surge, or a tiny bit of a surge, depending on the quality of the photo, or other factors, but it's definitely there.

These oregon beach shots are really popular right now, and they continue to be very technically well done.. thus a huge surge. The voting reflects this in challenges. Smart people *will* jump on this ship (or those lucky enough to be around such landscapes), but, due to human nature, it can't last long.. and will eventually be replaced by some other "In the moment" thing.

Not much we can do about it except -- if you're really that gung-ho about ribbons or high placings -- follow the trends to the best of your ability and submit shots of that type.

The good thing is.. the "Browse Photos" section usually has a great selection of non-ribbon type photographs to look at, and people's great works are often brought up in the forums, so it doesn't always have to be about the win :)

I agree Artyste and the ribbon's are not that important to me. If they were I would not submit a few of the shots I have. The feedback I have gotten on these images has been very positive for the most part and has helped me a photographer which is the important thing.

Sure a ribbon would be nice, but it's a great feeling when your image gets selected as someones favourite, what a buzz!
