I'm having an intermittent problem with the shutter firing. Everthing will be working fine and all of a sudden the shutter won't fire when the button is pressed, it will autofocus but won't fire, if I turn the camera off then back on, or change shutter speed or f/stop it will start to work again. This only happens every now and again. Has anyone else run into this?

I've had that happen, though very rare (maybe 3 times since May 04). Not sure what it is. I'm sending my camera in to Nikon for a cleaning so I'll probably have them look at that.

Are you shooting in low light? Might be losing focus.

Happens to me too. Except my autofocus stops, and the only thing that I can do is turn the camera off and on.

I called Nikon, and they couldn't say what was wrong with it.

I would try to make time (like 2 and half weeks) to send in the camera to Nikon to get it looked at by a technician before your warranty expires.

I think I might do this, but 2 weeks is a long time, especially if it doesn't happen too often.

I already had to send my camera in once for a different problem.

Can't be low light as today was bright sunlight shooting cars, autofocus worked fine it just would'nt fire the shutter. Maybe I should send it to Nikon I just hate not having it for 2 weeks.

Try it on total manual mode (even focussing) see if it does it. they are quite fussy in auto mode. mine has refused to fire because the auto-focus was not quite right. failing that then it is best to send it to Nikon for a scrub up, dont forget to have a moan at them too and blab on about being a pro etc etc .. when i put mine into the shop for a clean-up they leant me another for 2 days then it was done.. but I live in Japan. anyway try that and also another thing i just remembered is the contacts on the body where the lens fits give them a wipe off with alchohol (not your finest whiskey) they sometimes get a coating of muck there too... good luck man.

The only time mone has not fired is the same as alionic. When the autofocus is set to AF-S it will only fire when it thinks the subject is in focus. Sometimes it is touchy. Try AF-C and see if the problems repeats. In AF-C the camera will fire even if out of focus.

Mine was on AF-C the last time it happened.

What focus mode?

1. [(o)]

2. (o)

3. o

I forget the mode names at the moment, but with the first, I think, it tries to compensate for everything and tends to bounce around while trying to focus.

I think #1 (3-D Matrix somethingorother)
I don't remember the focus setting (from the custom menu), but it was not the "closest subject" setting; one of the other two.
