I am so impressed with the majority of the AA photos. Where do YOU PEOPLE ALL LIVE? Darn it, I really need to get out of Kankakee (We have some cheap little gazebos David Lettermen donated to us years ago - LOL, but nothing fantastic like your photos reflect) Hmmm, I think I'm incredibly jealous!
Don't have to lock my threads - I enter, everyone else heads for the hills.

I think people tend not to respond to new threads on challenges underway after a few days, the other threads already have the bases covered...

Not at all. Perhaps you might consider that a lot of folks were having dinner or doing other things, and considering the amount of threads that went by this site today, it could be argued that it didn't stay at the forefront very long.
Just a thought

Oh, okay. Thanks for being kind! (I posted the first one about 4 hours ago though). I thought people would be so proud of where they live. Unless everyone's hoppin' on a plane to fly to all these mountainous or exotic places just to get a shot at a ribbon!!! I guess it could be no one wants to give away where they live right now in case someone says "aha" that was your photo ... |

I know exactly how you feel. Ansel Adams . . . Oklahoma City. . . . I got nothing. |

Oklahoma brings to mind interesting dust bowl photos, maybe Dorthea Lange quality. I guess this is the wrong season though and not something to be wished for either. My all time favorite photo is the one of the migrant mother and children though, and maybe it wasn't even near Oklahoma... |

On a personal note I saw several outstanding photos that were not remotely connected with any exotic places. Some of them were trees standing majestically, others showed fields or rock formations.
I for one am very proud of where I live, and can assure you that there aren't any wonderful seascapes or mountainous vistas to feast your eyes upon. I do however believe that I took a relatively good photo of a scene that exists in abundance throughout America.
I do know one thing, and that is that I truly do look at things in a totally different perspective since I joined the ranks of DPC, and see a lot more photo ops than I used to.
Just a thought....

Yes, I have to say that living somewhere where the "weather elements" don't get in the way is ideal. I happen to live in Southern California. Where there is a "blue ribbon" image somewhere, you just have to find it. Again I am lucky, living with in 1 hour from the beach and mountains. As well as urban, farm, rural, suburban area's. I can't complain, except in the hot summer times. |

My Adams image is of something that can be found in or near literally any town in the world... And I live in one of the most photogenic places in America. I went up and down the Cape shooting the grand vistas, seascapes and landscapes, and ended up with an entry shot 150 yards from my house, which is doing very well. Plus I had "weather problems" the whole challenge period, but was able to work within them. So take heart!

My area is also a less than dramatic environment, but I'm happy with what I chose to shoot. No control over the sky, however and it was very bland. Looks like I'm going to be solidly average...as usual. |

My shot was taken in a parking lot behind a mini-mall above a bigger parking lot of the local mall.... nothing exotic or majestic about it, but you'd never know by looking at the photo, at least I hope not anyways. You just have to keep your eyes peeled for that perfect shot at that perfect moment, even in the wierdest of places. :-)

I think it is clear by this challenge, that it doesn't really matter where you live, there is great beauty everywhere. You just need to be able to recognize it. Whether its a majestic mountain range or a rotting old root sticking out of the mud along side a creek bed. Finding it, and properly photograghing it is the trick. The beauty is out there everywhere. We can thank God for that. He hasn't cheated anyone. Unfortunately I was unable to work on this challenge as I was in the process of moving to my new home, but I wish everyone lots of luck. There are many great images. I'm picking out the ones I want to put on my calendar next year. :D |

I took my photo behind some council buildings at the end of my street. It still looks like a landscape; it's amazing what you can do if you're forced to. |

I'm not really ashamed of where I live; I'm just in awe of where some of the other members live. I once lived where the Rockies were in my front yard, and that's a view I'll never forget. Now I'm in the prairie, but I've been here nearly 20 years so I really can't complain. Besides, Chicago is my backyard now (well, close) and I love urban life. If it wasn't going to be so darn cold or snowy, I'd consider going downtown and watching the St. Patrick's Day parade and the dying of the Chicago River green tomorrow! |

I live in a very photogenic area of new Mexico, but I manage to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with almost every photo! |

I live about 6 hours drive from Yosemite. When this challenge was announced, I was seriously considering making an overniter to Yosemite and trying to recreate one of his shots there. Then my wife asked me "How much do you win again?" That was the end of that idea! |

I can't tell you how many times I tried to "recreate" a classic Ansel in Yosemite. Never but ONE time did I get an image that could even begin to compare to his. Yosemite depressed me, almost, LOL. Remember, I taught there with him... Damn, he OWNED that place.
I made my mark, such as it was, elsewhere...

Maybe not living in Yosemite is an advantage, different perspectives, different expectations, and therfore nothing to be compared directly with the man himself.. |

Telehubbie,
Too bad. It would have been a nice trip for you and your family. Just tell her, "It's not about the money, honey". "It's about quality time and enjoying life's beautiful scenery." :D Let me know if it works and I'll try that on my hubby. |

Marjo: I didn't say I was going to take her with me ;-)
Maybe that's why she was bitter!
Bear: Keyword was "trying." Would have been fun though. Going in the late spring though (with wife and kid) when the water's flowing. |
