My laptop now finally rejected all attempts to be kept alive. So I'm pulling the plug on it and will buy my new system next week when/if I find the time.

I have decided for the sake of my hobby to resist the urge to possess a flat screen monitor. However, if you HAVE to buy a flat screen, which one will you buy?

I have the Apple HD Cinema Display 23" and for photo/video editing it´s one of the best LCD available.

but as a budget LCD the 20" is just as good as the 23" only smaller.

the biggest issue is that the LCD shows 16.7M colors, not 16.2M colors as most of the cheap ones.

and if you choose CRT screen then go for a good one, like sony trinitron.

I second that. I work on Calibrated Sony Trinitrons and Apple Cinema Displays, and do heavy Photoshop retouching on both. I prefer the Apple, but the higher contrast of LCDs can sometimes present a problem (what looks like black might not be).

250.

Seriously, it just means that the blacks look blacker compared to the whites. For the purposes of photography, a very high contrast ratio is not necessarily a good thing as it will tend to mask details in the shadows.
