| Photography is a fun hobby but making photography my profession would just ruin a really fun activity! |

Jamie, I just checked out your site. You do beautiful work. The shots are adorable and really capture their personalities. You must have the patience of a saint. :-) Good luck to you. I think you will have a great business.

Exactly. Make it anything close to "work" and forget it. :-D

Well I'd like one day to do a couple of exhibitions and perhaps make some money - but I don't think that I'd ever really consider photography as a career path. I'm fairly well in agreement with the perception that doing it professionally would take a lot of the fun away.
It's a general principle in learning psychology that providing an external reward for an intrinsically pleasurable activitiy tends to reduce the individuals motivation to perform said activity.
I guess that's why professional sportspeople never think they're getting paid enough! |

I'm really an actor, just waiting for the right part. :)
In the meantime I work as a senior software engineer to fill the coffers and keep the wife in diamonds. I love writing software, and it's a hell of a lot easier than creating a good photo.
Photography is way too difficult for a lazy guy like me to do as a full-time profession. I just do it as a hobby. It's an outlet for my creative urges, and I guess I like a little humiliation now and then.

Most people seem to have the same idea as me. Photography seems to always be more enjoyable when its for fun and not getting paid to do what the employer wants. Although the extra cash on the side is nice. Will most likely never be my profession though. Although my job isn't too far off being a graphic designer and webmaster for the company I work for.

| I agree with most. Just a hobby, one which I happen to love and hope to get better at. It's my escape, it occupies my mind and spirit. I take pictures to make me happy, that I am happy with and that express my inner self. Hopefully others enjoy them as well, but if I were to "try" to make money doing it, I think it would become "work" and it would take the sheer joy out of it. I have sold about 6 pictures but they weren't taken for someone, just ones I took that people liked. There is a big difference. |
