I know the afterlife thread was locked, but I just have to get this comment in. First off, how about giving people who actually work all day a chance to read through a thread and reply before locking it. I spend my workday actually working, not posting to internet forums, so I have to wait until the evening to post.

OK, now I got what I wanted to say off my chest so go ahead and lock and/or delete this post.

The thread was up for three days. You had plenty of time to respond to the topic at hand. If you wanted to make a comment along the lines of the off-topic discussion that led to the thread being locked in the first place, I'm sorry, but we're not going to allow that. If you want to start a new thread to make such comments, we don't allow that either.
When a thread degerates irretrievably into personal attacks, we will lock that thread immediately. While I appreciate the fact that you might have a comment you feel the need to share, our ovverriding to ensure a positive and constructive experience for the users as a group, and if that means that we have to lock a thread before some particular user had a chance to respond, then we'll live with that decision.

The thread was up for 3 days; however the last 70% of the posts were posted today while I was at work and it was one of those to which I wished to reply. Thank you for the censorship. |

It's simply a matter of not giving people license to continue the personal attacks from the prior thread here. If we allow you to do it, how can we stop anyone else?

I agree, well done. I have to admit, I was getting highly 'excited' to say the least. I am a passionate person by nature.
But if your comment was allowed, then of course someone else would have something to say, and before long, this thread would be a 13-page continuation of the locked thread. You could try PMing the person if you really have something important to add.

What I posted and you deleted was not a personal attack by any stretch of the imagination. |

I agree, it wasn't; however, to allow it would be to give license to continue the previous conversaion. Extensive past experience with that has shown that doing so means the personal attacks promptly continue in the new thread. Rather than allow that to happen, I took action consistent with the already-made decision to curtail discussion on the topic.
