Your god is no better than anyone else's god is to them. Grow up, and show some respect to other people's beliefs. Like I said...it doesn't matter what religion I am or if I am even any religion.

My God is bigger then your god and if you don't believe me bring him over after school and my God will wip your god's butt.

That's fine...a little immature, but fine.
Like I said...show some respect to other people's beliefs. When people realize that their religion is just as important as someone else's religion is to them...and likewise, their god just as important as someone else's god is to them...people will be more understanding.

Does that mean you're chickening out?

chickening out of what? I'm clearly not going to 'bring my god to fight your god' after school as you say. You're just being your old self again.

To stay on topic: If I brought my god to fight your god AFTER LIFE, would yours chicken out?

Easy folks, this is supposed to be about the afterlife, not after school. |

So when God was giving out a sense of humor where did he stick yours?

You complain that some people have no tolerance for other people's faith (and I agree with you in a much less vehement way) yet you have no tolerance for other people's sense of humor.

Your god was pretending to bully his, a perfect scenario for conflict, especially due to the absence of any ;-/, ;-o or ;-Ds.
I'd say stop, change, start.

My questions are:
1. Do you believe in an after-life for all creatures on Earth? If so would that include those humans who remain undecided on religion - and does it include an after-life for those opposed to your religion?
2. Do you think that mankind's increased intelligence, and inabilty to accept the concept of 'nothingness', has led to the afterlife concept as a form of insurance policy for the finality of death? |

I think it is wonderful to know Absolute Truth. I think it is also wonderful to erringly believe that one knows Absolute Truth. We appear to have camp one, those who do KNOW (perhaps an empty camp,) and camp two, those who erringly believe they KNOW.
It appears to me that those in camp two are more firmly convinced than those (if any) in camp one, that they are in camp one.
It seems a waste of potential friendships, armies, suicide bombers and their combined victims to continue the struggle to convince others to join you in camp one. Please restrain yourselves.

Interesting questions, Jon. ..Interesting because of the premises assumed by each.
1. I think that belief in an afterlife doesn't necessarily need to be associated with any religion. For me, it's more of a hope that something succeeds me. My only hope is that whatever form "I" take after the death of my physical body, it won't be painful (sounds weird, but I do wish to avoid pain and maximize my pleasure - not at the cost of anyone else's pleasure, of course).
2. You're assuming that mankind's intelligence has indeed increased. I'm not so sure. I do, however, think that religion is a crutch, or insurance policy as you put it. I think also that people like Jon Edwards who purports to speak to the dead on behalf of the bereaved are charlatans.
In short, I doubt very much that anything like a soul or personality survives physical death. Maybe what survives is akin to a particular frequency of radio wave - awaiting something to tune into it again (another body?)

I don't mean to be the bearer of bad news, Deapee, but telling people to grow-up because you're angry over ..what???...may also be considered immature by some. |
