Yesterday I got my first customer. She would like an 8x10 print matted in a 16x20 frame. I went out and got the print made and purchased the frame which came to about $22. I have to ship it to IL. My question is how much do I charge this woman? I am really new to all this and wasn't expecting to get a buyer so quick after putting up my gallery. Thanks for any input.

If your total costs come to $22, charge that + whatever you feel your time is worth to assemble, package (incl. costs here), and ship the final product. As an example, if you feel you should make $50 for the deal, charge $72 (+ shipping).

First of all, I would have discussed price with her before you went through the expense of printing and buying the frame for it.

Basically, pricing is up to you. What do you think it's worth? Was it a difficult shot to produce? Did it take a lot of post processing time? What personal value does it hold for you? Are you proud of it?

Since I'm starting out, when I went to my first gallery showing, I was pricing my 12x16 prints at $80.00, and then you have to figure in the cost of printing and framing.

Framing - $22.00
Printing - approx. $15.00
Shipping - approx. $40.00 (depending on where you are and what service you use)

So you need to price it above a base of approximately $77.00, just to break even.

Hope that helps.
