This was my favorite photo from a recent trip I made to the zoo. The extent to which you can connect with these creatures on a human-like level is amazing. Wondering what you guys all think.

As you say Eugene, a great expression, well captured.

That is an incredible shot! The only thing I would change is maybe burn his privates a little bit. Ouch, did I just say that? Anyways, the eyes are very captivating, but then my attention is drawn to the bright private parts. I'm not a pervert, at least, not with animals, but that would keep the attention of the viewer to the eyes.

Great shot crank. It reminds me of an experience I had at the Washington DC National Zoo a few years ago. I was leaning on the railing and peering into the large outdoor chimpanzee enclosure, but not seeing much. Just beyond the railing were large shrubs, and then beyond that was the very tall plexiglass wall. All of a sudden, I heard a hand slap bang! on the glass, and then saw a chimp walking quickly away on his knuckles, looking over his shoulder at me, right into my eyes. I could almost hear him thinking, "Gotcha!"

Much better! Now the attention stays with the eyes. Keep the old version just for laughs though.

Chimps are about 99.6% closer to humans in DNA than they are to other apes. Chimps are the child-like section of the ape world with gorillas being the bullies and orangs being the nerds. The banging on the glass is called displaying. When viewing chimps if you notice that their hair is starting to bristle or stick up a little kinda like static shock then it means a display is usually about to happen.

Just some random chimp facts!

The red eyes in the pic makes him look a little demonic, though, not sure about 'human-like' :P

I think his very hominoid-like facial expression and posture reduce any "demoninism" in his eyes. Afterall, humans are the only animals with large whites in their eyes.
But regardless, I feel almost sorry for him in this picture. He looks resentful about being enclosed.
