Lol..yea vince, I know what you mean...never leave home without it. I think "best friends" could mean anything, "friend" means to love, so family doesnt count as friends so...I guess I love myself only. |

As I see it, you can go beyond people for this challenge. I guess it can also be more than 2 subjects , groups if need be. |

That's ridiculous... your best friend can't be your brother? How do you figure?

you know, I always say my mother is my best friend, but for some reason, Family is separate from friends. You have family and then you have friends. So I guess Robert isnt wrong when he says a brother can be a best friend, but I would not go that route in this challenge. |

I made my best friends during my college years but today we are all far apart from each other one is dubai, one is in London, England, One is in St louis, MO. I have tons of pics from the past and I have great idea for a friend shot but only problem is we are too far away. Might just have to make a trip to St Louie for this one visit him for a pic.
We shall see what happens. |

You know, if you can make a lamp post look like your best friend it will work, Gene Kelly managed it. |

My two girls are constantly in-tune with each other and have expressed that they are each others best friends my twin boys are the same way when it comes to daily social interactions. They have a special bond that I sometimes Don't understand. In my opinion yes your brother or sisiter can be your best friend.

My girls are Four and my boys eleven. I think my odds in having two sets of twins were better than my odds of winning a ribbon. But then again practice makes perfect, wait a minute maybe thats how I ended up with two sets of twins (hehe).

I can't imagine how we could TELL if the subjects were yer family or yer friend or, for that matter, a passing acquaintance from the street. Plus you can shoot any two best friends (of each other) you can find, or stage a shot to suggest best friends, I'm not sure where everyone's HEAD is at on this one... LOL
I expect to see LOTS of dogs & masters...

I would think a lot of people would consider it to be.
I think the trick on DPC is to think out of the box, but only to a certain degree. Go too far so that nobody gets it and you'll get slammed score wise.
I also hate when people keep using that phrase to justify an image as being correct for a challenge, and wonder why people do not get it. A "Dogs only" challenge with a photo of a cat, as people are meant to work out the cat thinks it's a dog .... yeah, whatever *laugh*
I think a good guide is this, for the out of the box option ....
If you were to show the photo to someone and have them start doing word association, how many guesses would they need to make before they gave an answer that would be very similar to the challenge? If they would get it in 10 goes, then sure, out of the box but doable. If they work their way through most of the dictionary before hitting it then maybe consider that "out of the box" is just an excuse to try and squeeze a photo into a challenge ;)
Alternate to the above ... imagine asking loads of people to do a single word association. How many might give a word that matched the challenge? If you'd need to ask (estimated) 1000 people before they hit the right answer then ... well, let's just say there are only 500 voters, so a lot would not get it (although they do have the advantage of knowing what the challenge should be about.
Sure, people should think "out of the box" but also think about how far makes the challenge meaningless imho :)
A good title can really help people to see out of the box and spot your intention though ... but the photo I think still needs to meet the challenge, not just a photo where the ONLY link is the title.
Credit card example you gave ... photo alone, an awful lot of people here would just not get it. Use a good title and I think you could easily draw it back into "acceptability" ;)
