Well, I went right to the source (Wacom, who by the way list the 4x5 and 6x8 Intuos3 models as out of stock on THEIR STORE) and asked them why they were so scarce... They were kind enough to answer, and here it is:
Doug:
I apologize that our Intuos3 products are so scarce right now and we do not anticipate that supply will surpass demand until mid-April timeframe. It seems we could not predict how popular the brand new Intuos3 technology would become so quickly. You might try a local Apple Store if you are in a large city: //www.apple.com/retail/
Hope this helps.

I picked one up a week ago at CompUSA
//www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=318624&pfp=SEARCH
Says it's in stock and you can order online or check by zip code for store availability.

Cut out the different sizes available from a piece of paper and determine from that which one you would like best. Worked for me.

I like using a trackball instead of a mouse; and when I draw it is primarily from the wrist and fingers as opposed to broad gestures from the sholder and elbow. My old Wacom tablet was the size of a placemat and was great for dealing with building plans, but for photoediting i got a little graphire and found it strikes the right balance between portability and utility. Look at the way you work with a pencil on a peice of paper and that will tell you what size you need.

I have the 6"x8" and its the perfect size for anything I need. I even retouch alot of my artwork with it with no problems. |
