spent some time with my best friend Namrata and she was patient enough for me to try some portraits of her. Let me know what you think and how can I improve upon these...
thanks for looking :)

Very nice. I like the first and third the most. Very relaxed look from your friend, the colors are nice, great poses and good focus. Nothing really wrong with the second, I just prefer the other two. Nice work. |

I'm surprised you called these attempts, these are successes! First one is my favorite. |

I like the first and third as well... Great lighting too. Did you use a back drop or did you take the bg out yourself?

thanks for your comments Robert,Andrew and Eric. the first one is my favorite too. I like the skin tones and expression..
Eric,
As you can see the background is not much visible as the face/hair covers most of it.. and also she was wearing black, but still its not as black, so I copied the image ( full image) and used gaussian blur on it and changed the mode to overlay ( so that the black portions get more burned ) and i could get the desired result. but this dodges some parts, which I had to burn a little.

These pictures are great. What kind of light setup did you use? |

they are all natural light and not even reflectors used.
1,3 : She was standing early morning in the balcony looking out...this wasn't planned. I just found her standing there and it looked great. since she was in a shade, the light was very diffused, and the white background is the community park which is relatively blown out due to morning sun.
2 : natural light coming from one window, all other windows/doors were out so this gave decent light and i didn't need anything extra. |
