I set up two 17" LCD monitors last week the work flow is just great ,but the color difference between them is like night and day !And it has been driving me nuts .
I have been looking at the COLOR VISION SPYDER 2 PLUSPRO would this be the best monitor calibration tool buy or is there a better one ?
I also have a 17 flat screen CRT can I run the CRT and one of the LCD together?
Thanks |

you can and I did for some time but unless you can turn the refresh rate of the crt up high, the flicker cn be distracting when they're side by side. But if you're not sensitive to crt flicker it's not a problem.
But apart from that as long as you have enough outputs on your graphics card ther's no problem. |

I haven't looked further into colorimeters, yet... but optix is also supposed to be a good one. I'll be glad to hear what others who have them have to say, also.
As for dual monitors.... YES, you can run a lcd and a crt at the same time. This will give u the best of both worlds as a crt is still the best for working on your photographs IMHO. |

I got the GretagMacbeth EYE-ONE color calibrator and it works great, I calibrated both my monitors and both my printers and now I can use both computers and both printers to print the same image and they all come out identical :)
as for if there is a better one.. when I got mine the store offered me a pro calibrator that costs about 65.000$ so YES there is a better one.. but do you need it ??

You can run a CRT and an LCD together.
However, if you're running a windows system, you'll only be able to properly profile one screen at at time. In the end this isn't too big a deal since generally with Photoshop you'll run the image in one screen (calibrated one) and your masses of toolbars in the other.

Try goign to BH and looking there to see what you like...different places all recommend different color management systems..

my setup
There's another on the floor on the left out of shot, and two tvs and a vcr hooked up on the other side of the room, can use those as monitors too in a pinch. Wouldn't trust half of that setup with photos though, the colour differences between the cheaper ones are shocking. I hate tfts anyway though, so the one tft is dedicated to irc :)
