Did you all here about that? They bit his hand, his foot, his ear his nose and his cahones off all in a few short minutes. And then they ripped his eyeball out of the socket for good measure. I knew chimps were tough, but I had no idea that two of the cute little fellows could do that to a full grown man so quickly.

| I heard a little of it but didn't see it on TV. Chimps can be fierce and more so in the wild. I think it wanted a birthday cake the guy had which he was giving to another chimp that he had raised since a baby. I'd like to know how the others got out to attack unless he was in the enclosure with them all ! Poor guy, he'd be a mess. hope he recovers from it ! |

People are just plain stupid around wild animals. I remember seeing a guy run after a full grown male bison in Yellowstone National park to get a better picture! When I was a Parks Canada warden, we used to have to tell people all the time not to interact with animals like bears, coyotes, racoons, etc. The worst was having to shoot human-habituated animals that we couldn't live-trap. That sucked.
I can see how the guy got the stuffing torn out of him like that. Full grown male chimps are twice as strong as a full grown man. This guy had to fight two pissed off chimps. That's like trying to fight off four fit strong guys who aren't afraid to use their teeth!

They shot the eyeball removing chimp and his gonad removing buddy. That is how they got them off the guy.

I don't think these were wild. Just pissed off. And the article says he wasn't fighting them off. He was trying to reason with them.

I read that a few days ago. He was there visiting his old "pet" chimp.
By the talk about taking a single chimp on, and the surprise that a chimp can do this, people are talking like chimps are small (often what we see as chimps are infants). Full grown chimps are not small. I didn't remember the statistics, so I've looked it up on the latimes article sidebars:
Weight 100-120 lbs
Height Standing: 4 to 5.5 feet
Strength: About 5 times that of humans
Actually, I thought I recalled that the weight would have been higher, as well as I recall from 25 years ago in comparative psychology.

shoot 4 to 5.5 feet, 100-120 pounds...no problem.
Their strength is 5 times that of a normal human. I'm a super-human.
