As some know, I have been shooting the Poway High School Wrestling Team all year, following for many, their last year on the mat, as many are Seniors this year, my son included.
Heavily-favored to win the prestigious State Title, the Team did in fact accomplish their goal and as of yesterday, were the official 2004-2005 CA State Champions. This has been a 4-6 year investment in personal discipline and grueling physical training.
May not seem such a big deal for some, but in the State of CA, there are no other divisions, nor levels - CA only has one. When a team or a wrestler #1, that's it - there are no other #1's in this State.
The event was held over the weekend at the Rabobank Centennial Gardens (formerly known as the Bakersfield Centennial Gardens) which an attendance over the 2 days of over 19,200 spectators.
Here are a few shots to give a little glimpse as to the size:
And the winners:
Unfortunatly my son won 2, then lost next 2 matches (by the #3 & #4 finishers) and was knoocked out at the end of day 1. Personal loss was quickly set aside when he became on of the 14 that help carry the team to a victory and has the honor of being able to wear a State Championship ring.
Pretty intense and very long weekend. Now to get through the 550+ shots taken - yikes!

| It is exciting to be a part of a team, especially when they accomplish such a wonderful finish to the senior year! I'm sure your son will remember your support and the event for years to come. Congratulations to the team! |

CSF always drew large crowds to the state finals regardless of the sport, at least when I was in high school in San Diego. And bear in mind that this championship was in Bakersfield. Nothing much else to do there, LOL...

Being able to be there all year long and shoot these young men from the first day of the season to their Championship was a blast.
Being able to preserve images like these for them and their families is what makes it all worthwhile:
In the finals, we had one take first place (a senior):
and one take second place (a sophmore):

Had a request from one of the parents to see if I could do a panoramic:
It worked.
