Your prints have to be "approved" to list?

By, who... the high priests?

They are approved to ensure that the site is going to turn out a quality product. Not content so much but quality of the image. They don't want people to be submitting a 1024x768 pixel image and offering it to people in a print size too large so that it would look pore.

But the buyer can see the image already

See the image yes, the quality of a 10*15 no. You only get to see a 640*??? here and most often at that size the picture will look fine, its a world away from the quality of a larger image.

It's basically to stop people uploading photos that will look low quality when printed at certain sizes, eg you can't print 20x30 with a 1mp camera photo. If they were allowed and people bought them, they would be dissatisfied with the print and return it, costing DPCPrints money since they have to refund. They would also gain a bad reputation.

They will also occasionally not approve (for the public gallery) shots which are clearly not for widespread commercial consumption, like vacation snapshots. Think of the admins as the curators of a gallery or museum -- they want to present items of commercial value.

This in no way stops you from uploading printable files of any photo and printing them for yourself -- these do not need to be approved. You are also free to sell those prints if you want ... that way any quality issues will be resolved directly between you and your customer.
