Took these two sunset photographs about 5 minutes a part. I'm trying to learn how to take good sky photographs. Any comments or critiques are welcome. Any input would be grateful

Great colors. Doesn't seem very wideangle, but that's not such a big deal. Looks like you have some red fringing in the first one. |

Both are beautiful, Scott. I like the first one due to the brighter, more dramatic lighting and illumination. The second one has the details gettingmore lost. However, I am on a darker screen here at work. I also like the suggestion of wide angle. Thanks for the beauty!

Nice sunset shots. The colour change in the 2nd shot is very dramatic. I have to admit though that the blue seems a bit unnatural. Were the colours boosted at all? |

Scott, I like both--perhaps the one on the right more, because of the color contrasts. I am not sure these can be improved much. One thing I would say, from my personal preferences, is that I do like landscapes to be less square--significantly wider than they are tall.
As far as capturing the sky, I think you've done a good job. Sunsets are tricky to color balance; some of the sunset's I've taken I wouldn't believe unless I was there. So you have to judge what you shoot against what you saw. Are the colors pretty much true to your memory?

The first one is very true to the color but the second one I don't believe the blue was as predominant in nature as captured. |
