Leaving work today I stepped out to perfect lighting and cloud coverage. Jumping in my car I raced to a specific spot I have wanted to photograph forever. I pull over, flip on my hazards and grab my camera. Exiting the car, I noticed a car pulling over in front of me. I jump out, leaving my camera on the car seat and ran over to assure the good Samaritan I was just taking a picture. The man laughs and starts to pull away as I go back to the car and of course, realize I locked myself out. I take off running after the car that just stopped, he stops again, laughing and asks if I wanted to take his picture? Cute. No I wanted to borrow a cell phone if he had one, because I just locked myself out.
So my new friend Al, hands over his phone and in a few minutes I am patiently waiting on hold making idle conversation with the good humoured guy. He notices that I’m wearing gloves with the Apple logo on them, where did I get those he asks? Oh I used to do tech support for Appleâ€Â¦.now I am suddenly on hold, listening to Billy Idol, giving tech support to Al for a printer issue he has just been killing himself trying to figure out.
Service arrives, Al leaves with his phone and my phone number (just in case it still won̢۪t print lol) Service guy (Mike) wants to know how I ended up locking myself out in the middle of nowhere. I explain, he gets a good chuckle going and adds a few women driver jokes for good measure. 2 minutes later he pops the door and despite the jokes I tell him I love him. I hop back in my car and pretend to adjust things as I still have not taken the picture, but being a gentleman Mike is obviously waiting for me to leave. I̢۪m embarrassed at this point so I do. Only to drive around a very big country block, ending up back at the same place. The light is still perfect, but barely, so I grab a couple of shots feeling like the worlds biggest dope.
Not done with my excursion yet I decide to drive 40 minutes further into the country to take pictures on top of a hill into the fading sunset. On the way I pass a perfect setup of a grey pony standing it the sunset. Again I stop, jump out with camera AND keys (lol) and start snapping away. Another car pulls over, this time with a horse trailer attached. I had just met the owner of the greyâ€Â¦ a horse photographer!
So we talk, me on the road, her in her car for half an hour, exchanging e-mail address and ideas about digital versus film. Finally I walk back to my car in the fading light with an invite for a full day at the farm.
I get home, and low and behold Al has called. Printer works great, and he says he owes me a dinner because he feels it̢۪s his fault I was locked out... Course he̢۪s laughing while chivalrously taking the blame, but I̢۪ll probably call him back anyway. He was cute.
The best part, I laughed the whole time and got some really wicked shots. Imagine, some people think photography is a solitary hobby.

I before checking your bio, I was ready to peg you as an inhabitant of Maine or thereabout.
That's an awesome story...wait, perhaps that's not quite the right adjective. "Humorously bittersweet" maybe? |

The funniest part is reading your story and not realizing you are a lady. I thought you were a guy -- the whole story, I was thinking the guys were like hitting on you and had no clue why -- guys just don't treat other guys like that. Then you said he was cute...so I checked your profile haha.

where in ontario?
and deapee's right...if you were a guy, you'd still be at your fist location trying to break back into your car!
(well...okay, not in Ontario. We all love each other here!)

lol that is kinda funny, I never even thought about the gender thing.
I was about an hour north of Toronto, just outside of Oshawa.
And thanks for calling me a lady!!! My mom would be proud.

Nice story.
I have the feeling that you're going to be telling this story about "how you met" for the next 50+ years. :D |
