Hey there,

I was messing around trying to recreate something like below left (Homage to Jacko & Rackat, by hughletheren).

The one on the right is my attempt. I've used two pieces of card behind a glass. Postprocessing: rotate, crop, and saturate. The spot lights in my kitchen are the only lights that produce any decent amount of light! Any ideas for cheap home lighting?

All comments welcome.

Paula,

The image is rather noisy. You might wanna run it through Neat Image to smooth it over.
Putting the background further from the glass will avoid reflections and shadows.
Lighting the background using a separate flash or a halogen office light (backlighting) would also help.

I'll try that. I don't have PS so I'll have to find out what's the Corel equivalent to NeatImage.

Cheers!

NeatImage isn't made by Adobe.
Dowload it for free :)

For lighting, put the lights behind the glasses shining on the background. That way you won't get the white spot reflections.

Thanks also for the lighting tips. I'll have a go with backlighting and see how it turns out!

I also don't have the money or need of special lightings, so for my recreation of the same image I used a couple of halogen office lights (that cost less then 10$ each) shining the background.
They were placed about half way behind the glasses towards the background. So you need to make sure you have enough distance there to avoid all the shadows.

Wow, Jinjit! You've done a great job there.

I think I'll go light shopping and have another go.

Take two!

Got some cheapo desk lamps today. And had another go....

Is this better?
