I wasn't pissed off. Not my style, to be. But I'm glad we're on the same page now...

Peace out, bro'.

I think the fact that so many people are scoring so low due to various interpretations is by itself a very succesful chalenge. It forces us all to argue a platform which in turn causes us all to crank up our creative juices. My picture is being slammed because a lot of voters felt the it is a color pic that I turned into a B/W.The fact is it is actually a color pic with very little post processing. The fact that it is scoring so low is actually a winner in my eyes because it proves to myself that I am begining to master light and shadows and create an image thru my creativity that is not what it always apears to be. Art is subjective and in my opinion this is the best challeng yet - We are all winners in this one !!!!!!!

Just to toss more gas on the fire here...;)

It's very important to keep in mind that when you are using any kind of matrix metering, your camera is looking to make the whole scene middle grey.

So if you are using matrix metering, didn't make any exposure adjustments, and didn't tweak in PS, your pictures will come out grey. I see a bunch of shots that are grey. Not white, but grey. If your monitor isn't properly calibrated then the problem is going to be even worse.

With 400+ shots its challenging to comment on every submission that isn't showing up toned correctly. I'm slowly working my way through the shots and trying to point out to people that they may not have metered the scene correctly.

Just something to keep in mind. :)

I have also been seeing a lot of very gray looking backgrounds. In some cases the metering was off and the exposure was not adjusted in PS in other cases there was too little light on the background making it look gray, in some cases a pretty dark gray. I am going through and commenting on a number of these photos and expect to be PMed telling me that in fact the background was white, the point is that is should look white as well.

White is hard to light and shoot, hopefully this has been a learning experience, I know it has for me. White is hard to photograph because we do know what it should look like.

Only my second challenge -

But i think this challenge is good enought for a end of chapter exercise in "Light: Science and Magic " (which should have had exercises..)

~50 pics to get it right (in my eyes) -
(goldilocks rules- too hot, too cold, juuuust right ...)

people vote with their vision of the question - not mine ..

don't care (much ;)

Robt-Thanx so much for responding. I was afraid after starting this thread that I may have sounded like a bitter dork. When I was only trying to help broaden peoples view of the challenge. I happily realize that I'm not at all alone. Very cool.

DDYJR-That was very cool and super positive post. I feel better having read it. Thank you for that perspective. I'm not sure if this challenge will make me more creative or more conservative...if I'm shooting higher votes, that is.

I now realize that my entry looks different on other screens and was more white on mine and grayer on most others. It printed out with more white as well.

I've had a massive craving for 3 fried eggs over easy, for two days now
.....I wonder why?

Guidelines are there for a reason. I think that it's called dpchallenge not just because it's a contest against others but more so a way to challenge yourself as a photographer by coming up with an original, creative and well shot photo that falls within the guidelines given.
I was REAL dissapointed to read on a thread about the seperation challenge where 2nd place was accused of using burn and dodge tools and he admitedly said "so sue me,lol" and no one seemed to care. It was a great photo, but he created lighting effects that weren't even there. There are photoshop contests for that stuff. Not following site rules is way worse than not following challenge guidelines. Is it just me?

I always follow the rules.
I`m REAL dissapointed that some people can`t be bothered to read them.

Selective Editing: Adjustments can be made selectively to your photo. Cloning, dodging, burning, etc. to improve your photo or remove imperfections or minor distracting elements, etc. is acceptable.
