I know a decent place I could drive, but I have 3MP maximum.

Yeah I'm in Maryland and as long as the sun hit the road right, the snow would be minimal... I'm just not sure that I could definitely find a spot... I do know of a couple of automotive photographers that are likely to have this kind of shot laying around, though - if you're interested:

//www.isacsonphotography.com/

As well, with all the salt on the road... The more I think about it, the more I wish I'd gotten some of this exact shot this past summer when I did my car mount experiment :)

This is the only one I could find, (newbie) going to try to put the thumbnail here.

Yaaahooo, my first try to post a thumb and it actually works. I am not as dumb as my wife says!

You need a new wife then...

Just had our 23rd and I've thought about it once in a while. Though not for long!

Took me a while to find it but this is the best one I've seen on this site ...

OK, I got more info. The image I posted earlier is apparently stock from Getty Images, but they want a fortune for a non-exclusive 2-year license. I'm certainly not opposed to paying well for stock imagery, but they want ransom money for an image that could be used elsewhere, and this isn't THAT hard to shoot. If I can find an alternate, great. Otherwise, they'll have to cough up more dough.

Yes! That's what I'm looking for. A good possibility!

I am curious. How much is ransom money?
03/02/2005 07:35:43 PM · #36
How soon do you need it? I'm in the right locale (SoCal - almost always looks like summer) and the foliage is all green (from the recent rains. But its nearing dusk, and its slightly overcast, so the conditions aren't right at the moment.

Are you going for a paricular look as far as time of day? Most of the examples/candidates so far seem to have an early morning/late afternoon feel - does that matter?

Probably not what you are looking for but...

If you must know, about $6000 (and no, those aren't pesos).

I suspect they'll make a decision tomorrow afternoon or Friday morning. Lighting should approximately match the example I posted.

Nice one, Terry!

man if this was anytime but this week I could do this one. I have a shoot in Las Vegas starting tomorrow that will last until late next week. Not much green foliage there.

If you can use that, please let me know. I have the full-size version on my hard drive in PSD format (I can convert it to JPEG as well if that is needed).

Can it be a dirt road?

No, let's stick to pavement, please.

Update- I appreciate the response. Nothing firm yet, but the client might very well pay the ransom for Getty's shot.

I need a PaD for today anyway and I know I place to try after work (1:00). If it works and you can use it (if it's not too late), great. If not, I will have at least covered my PaD for the day. It's blue sky and sunny here today, so I'm hoping it works.

One quick question...do you want the curve going that same direction? I will try to get one going both directions, but it might depend on the lighting. I should be able to have something posted by around 3:30/4:00 or so if anything turns out.

Don't go nuts on my account. If the client is willing to spend $6000 on that image, then they're unlikely to use another [even superior] alternate since the original has already been through various approvals. If approved, then I'll have to buy the Getty image today, in which case the issue is closed.

Okay. I think I'll go try to shoot something along those lines anyway, just for the heck of it and because it is so nice outside today. Good luck with your client.
