I just took another dive into this little business venture. Due to some contract work I've signed and a tidy little tax return (thanks Unca' Sam for holdin' my money for me), I've decided to invest in a used 1Ds. I know a 1DmII has the updated features but since I like shooting portraits more than action and I found a camera with low mileage on it I figured what the heck.

I haven't decided whether to yell "Wahoooo!" or go puke. It's kind of a toss up.

I should have the new body here by the end of the week so hopefully I'll have a few subjects lined up to test the camera with during my grace period before I have to decide whether to keep it or send 'er back.

With a little effort you can probably manage to puke and go "woohoooo!" at the same time ;)

Sensational camera, the sort that would be completely wasted on me as the 20D I have is well ahead of my expertise, but in your hands Kevin well, I think it couldn't be in better hands to be honest.

Look forward to seeing what you can do with it :)

With all the model work I surprise that you didn't already get one.

Why'd you sell yours?

Snake bit. I want the 1Ds Mark II or the 1D Mark II for a wildlife shoot I have to do. Either of these are faster then the 1Ds and will be better for what I need.

A day early!!??!!!

Whoa. UPS delivered the camera a day ahead of schedule. I don't have anyone lined up for the studio until tomorrow night. Arggghhhh.

Where're the candles? The flags? Dishes? I need something to photograph. This monster is awesome. I'm just lovin' the way it feels in my hand. I'm dyin' here wantin' to shoot. See you folks later this weekend. I gotta go shoot!!!

Good deal. Your gonna love this thing. My 1D Mark II comes tomorow morning, so I know how you feel. New toy. While I was at it I also decided to order a new Gitzo Studex tripod and a EF 100/2 USM lens.

Dare I say your a little premature with your profile then? have been intrigued as to what you were getting when you went 'no camera, vote only' for a while. I'm not jealous, have only just learn't how to turn my ickle 300D on.

And big congrats to you Kevin :)

I can't wait to see some pictures from it, Kevin. Awesome camera.
A question comes to mind, however. When downsized to DPC size, will there be any noticeable difference when compared to a Digital Rebel (besides slight decrease in DOF)?

I doubt at 640px on the long side that the DPC viewers will notice a difference. The noticeable differences will probably be much more for me and my paying customers. I've been approached to shoot some large prints commercially and I've sold a few 20"x30" portrait prints for clients where I think the larger native dimensions of the 1Ds will make a difference in getting better results.

The full-frame sensor does make a difference with the wide end of the EF 17-40 f/4 L lens. I may actually be able to get a decent photo of my "studio" now. I expect to have better results with the new Sigma 27-40 f/2.8 on the new body as well so that I don't produce as much distortion in the wider angle shots; and I also shouldn't have to shoot as wide with the FF sensor.

And the last and perhaps most noticeable feature of the new 1Ds, to quote Jacko, its just more badasser.

Oh definitely. The FF wide-angle should be amazing!

No, I legally own it, so I guess I can claim it.

Kevin, wait till you start downloading files to the computer. You will be amazed. The only thing I would warn you about the camera would be don't send it in to Canon Factory Service for anything. If you need it cleaned find a Canon authorized repair facility that has a good reputation. I was on the phone with a Canon rep yasterday about my 1Ds and he asked me to foreward him several RAW files from the camera. When he got them he called me and asked why I hadn't left them as CRWs. Duh.
