Took these from my deck Sunday at 200mm and 500mm respectively. Weather has been wonderful which equates into more pollution from the high pressure. These are basically out of camera without enhancement!

Just had to share.

I shot a sunset myself past sunday!

I'm curious 'bout something on my photo: What in the world could have caused those "glare points" on the image? dust on the lens? Or the light from the sun itself?
Any ideas?

I believe it is caused by reflections in the lens elements or filters you have on. I sometimes get it also if the angle is jsut right.

Hummm, wasn't using any filter for this shot (I don't have any filter LoL). It's strange, all 3 pics I took of it they all have this GLARE.
This one doesn't have it cz the sun was already lower than the horizon line. The reflection on the lens idea seems to be the answer.
That brings me to another question: Will I be able to shoot sunsets without that GLARE?

Eugene - Believe it or not I used a Tamron SP AF 200-500mm F5-6.3 Di LD (IF) (what a mouthful). One was shot at 200mm and the other 500mm. Not a terribly expensive lens considering the focal length.

Scuds - I get the relections sometimes when I use my wider angle lens. Maybe that is why I did not get it this time as I used a telephoto.

That's why then! Maximun zoom capability of my camera (built in lens) is 3x optical, that equals to what, 30mm?

Here was our Sunday sunset, the red is from all the crap that the volcano puts out, but it sure is pretty.

As for shooting right into the sun as it sets I have had very little luck in keeping the ghosting away. These were a surprise to me as I shot right into it.

Next time try keeping the sun off to the side a bit and let the camera meter off of the deep red of the sky instead of the sun. It might help.

edit: of course you realize I don't have a clue really. LOL
