A couple weeks ago it was the car fire.
This afternon it was (as was reported to me by the local PD) a Mercedes-Benz stopped on the street out front for setting off a bomb detection device in the next town over. The entire block was sealed off (pretty weird being that quiet with no traffic), 3 different TV news station Helicopters flying about, and TV reported it as a vehicle containing something radioactive.
??

Hey, Brad... I'll bet those police cars would look a lot closer if you pointed that massive 3X tele-extender at them (and not because of the added reach). For more expressive poses, set off some firecrackers as you focus. ;-)

For what it's worth, we finally found out what that was all about, or at least as reported by the TV stations.
Evidently our fire trucks have radiation monitors on board and was set off by the Mercedes pictured. The authorities were contacted and a good part of the police force blocked off the street and pulled the car over.
What finally came out (again as reported) was the driver of the car had just received radiation treatment and set off the Fire Dept's sensors as he was next to them at a light.
Sounds like one for the urban myths to me, but that was what was reported anyway.
