most cameras sopit out images at a 3:4 ratio
print sizes however are far from 3:4
what is your method for preparing a 3:4 image for (say...) an 8x10 print? |

Could use the presets in your photo imaging software to crop to 8x10, etc. |

If you don't want to crop an image, but the aspect ratio is wrong for the print size, another option is to use a border to make up space. It may require you to go to the next larger print size, but allows you to avoid cropping, and also allows all of the actual photo to be exposed when matting and framing. The border color has to be well-considered, of course. I like using a black border myself.

Crop is a good idea, but you can also open up a new file that is 8x10 at 300dpi and drag the photo to it. That is if you are doing your own printing. I send my images to pro color labs thru a system called ROES. The software is a free download and they have all sizes there. It is very easy to resize with the ROES system and you get back real chemically processed photos on real photo paper. www.cpq.net is one place, Bay photo is another. There are many of them out there. A good pro lab will also do the color correcting for their output. |
