They don't HAVE to be real, but I was aiming for realistic made-up lenses, like the two in my first post. |

Ahh - ok
a Nikon 14-70 2.8 for no more than $1,500
a Nikon 70-400 VR 2.8 for no more than $3,000
That and 2x teleconverter will do it. |

Sigma 50-500 $850 to your door.
at a tad over 4 pounds you might need a personal trainer if this is to be your walking around lens.

Yeah. I have the Tamron 200-400 but both it and the Sigma are a bit slow for low light conditions. And of course there is the VR consideration. We can all dream. |

The lens I've been dreaming about for several months now is the Sigma 120-300. It has f2.8 aperture throughout it's zoom range, is as sharp as L glass, and does not change it's length as you zoom in & out (so you are not pumping air, dust and moisture into your lens every time you zoom). Current model sells for about $1800-1900; a new "optimized for digital" model has been announced. I think this would be a perfect lens for shooting outdoors sports action photography, such as football, baseball, lacross and soccer.

Anyways, a 1mm lens sounds good. I bet at that distance, the shutters would trip over the rear element, not to mention the mirror.
Is it possible? And exactly how wide is that? |
I don't think you can go beyond 180° unless you figure a way to get the camera to look around behind you. An 8mm can acheive 180° field of view. |
Don't forget Nikon had the 6mm (220°) in 1969

I'd just like a "real" lens to change instead of adding this 3x converter monstrosity plus added offset bracket for use with battery grip (not shown):
Oh the day is coming to upgrade....
