Wow, Brad - terrific collection. I left comments and really enjoyed these. Did you see awpollard's SD area bird shots yesterday? You guys are spoiling me.

Patience, luck and a long lens. Did I mention luck?
Here are a couple more I like in B&W:

Thanks Lisa.
Are you referring to this one:
If so, it's a Lorikeet. They are in the parrot family and are primarily nectar drinkers. Judging by your domain extension, these should be native to you.
The Rainbow Lorikeet is a small, brightly-colored Australian parrot with a brush-tipped tongue. This active bird has a shrill call while flying and chatters while eating. It is found in rainforests, open forests, woodlands, heath, mangrove forests, parks, and orchards in Australia.
In the wild, this parrot feeds in flocks of about 20 parrots, but roosts in flocks of thousands of birds. Mating pairs stay together for life. The Rainbow Lorikeet has a life span of about 20 years.

Wow, Brad. Those are some seriously great bird shots. What kind of flash were you using?

Lisa:
I did see your native shots - cool multi-continental share!
Karin:
Drugged? (LOL) These birds should be WIRED! They are in an enclosure open to the public and one can buy nectar to hand feed them. I just enjoyed watching them interact and get fed.
420mm of lens in a small enclosure was a bit tricky though.
Brian:
Thanks for the comments & fav!
J.B:
Thanks for the comments - always appreciated.
Philip:
Thanks! The flash I use is the Olympus FL-40 off-camera in full TTL mode, on a bracket to offset it from the lens.
Thanks all, glad you enjoyed them and happy to share!

Fantastic shots Brad... Lord how I envy these wonderful captures. I too was out yesterday... in knee deep snow to try and get shots of owls. I did manage to get some, but a 420mm USM IS lens sure would have helped.
Wonderful shots.... those are truly stunning photos.
