It usually says macro on it. My new lens just *says* macro, but my other lenses actually have a switch that you flip when you want to shoot macro.

The blurb needs to say it will go to 1:1 (minimum). ie the subject will be the same size on the sensor as it is in real life

I don't know about the S20, but my S5100 has a button to push.

Usually slr lenses will have #'s and letters that mean different things.

Many lenses have the 'flower' image to put the lens/cam into macro mode. In reality many of these modes are simply close up mode, if you have a true macro lens do not use the cam macro mode as often it just won't work. True macro means 1:1 the subject is the same size on the sensor as it is in real life (have I said that before?).

What do you consider a 'normal' lens?

You should probably look at the minimum focusing distance, as that's the most important feature of a macro lens. Combined with the focal length, this is what makes the real difference. The higher the focal length, the bigger the subject will be in the frame. The lower the minimum focusing distance, the closer you can get to the subject, and the bigger it'll be in the frame. Look for a combination of the two.

I have the Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro and it says "macro" on it. It's a great lens, I'm in love with it.
