I knew this challenge was going to be a problem as soon as I read it. There are people who struggle figuring out how to get there images to the full 640 pixels, getting them to exactly 2:1, while easy if you know the tricks, will be passed any number of people. So now starts the debate, what falls into a ratio of 2:1? The easiest thing to do would be to make your photo exactly 2:1 and then not worry about it. But for me if it looks like it is 2:1 then I am happy, I am not going to look at the size of every photo to see if they have tried to sneak 2 or 3 more pixels in on me.
BTW we don’t have billboard in Hawaii, why mess up the view of paradise with billboards? Now think about this, to some extent that whole world is paradise, and what isn’t is our own doing, why would any place allow billboards? Hawaii recognizes that it is a special place and takes steps to protect that, wouldn’t it be nice if that rest of the USA did the same?

I'd like for someone to point out to where it says you can't have text in the image. As long as it's in the original image, why are people bent on killing these images?

Geez... that sounds crazy! I always align my Rice Crispies to the South. |
It is a well known fact that the Rice crispies are to be aligned to the furthest poll. There fore the Southern hemisphere people align to the north and Visa Versa.
It is also how the term "Tropical fever" became as these people are in total confusion as to which poll is situated closer. :P

I understand why you wouldn't want billboards in paradise--but can you tell me why Hawaii has Interstate highways? ;}

There are fewer and fewer billboards throughout the country--and I'm glad for that. But consider that in Times Square (NYC) some of the buildings are vacant--the billboards they support bring in more than sufficient revenue to pay for the real estate they occupy! And Times Square would just be another intersection if it weren't for its famous advertising displays. |

1. Select the entire image. Copy it to the clipboard.
2. Go to Image > Canvas Size and key in the new dimensions I want. Hit Enter. It doesn't matter what the directional options are set to.
3. Paste the original image into a new layer. You can then move it around until it's composed exactly like you want it.
4. Crop the image the same size as the current canvas (to get rid of the excess).
5. Delete the bottom (original) layer. |
I tried it didn't work. I am such an amateur

the person is probably using firefox, with the developer bar u can turn on an option that lists the dimensions in a little box next to the image of all the images on the page

I didn't say that: I said "have added text..." That's not allowed.

I have always wondered if you do have text, genuinely as part of the picture, but it LOOKS like it was added after, if you'll get slammed by voters as they think you cheated.
I had an entry a while ago that had text on, where the text was actually letters stuck on clear plastic and then a part of the photo. Worked too well, letters looked like they must have been added after. I didn't end up submitting, partly due to that and partly as, well, the rest of the photo was crap *laugh*
Yeah, I know, they should ask for a DQ .... but I think a lot of people don't, they just vote down.

I got it now. I feel so stupid. I should have asked this before submitting. The new one looks so much better. I am slapping myself right now.

Also got one of the 'not exactly 640x320' messages, I guess I was 640x325, oh well :) |

I too, have been measured up by the pixel counter! Mine is one pixel too short. Some people have a bit too much time on their hands. |
