I'm interested in the new 4/3 system and the e300. //www.dpreview.com/news/0502/05021712oly_3new43lenses.asp
zoom lenses with f2.8 and f2 and their small size is really appealing.. and the price of the new e300.. seems promising. anyone have the 300 ? its either this or the 20d... after stretching the budget really far. what do you all think of it? |

Cars too. When I was younger and buying crap cars i had to ... but now, well, my truck i had for 12 years, my current car going on 3.5 and I have no thoughts of losing it for another 3 or 4 years.
a1leyez0nm3 Why do you want to change? Why those two choices? What about the new Rebel 350XT?

I think some Olympus rebates are coming in March. Might wait until then. But why change? Unless you are unhappy with the D70.... |

I think some places are already selling with a $100 rebate. |

my d70 is okay.. but ive always shot canon and was plannign to switch back (much more comfortable with canon layout) and i like the canon AF and lenses more. canons stuff is ahead i think... I saw the olympus though and its a bit smaller too.. I want something i can stick with for years and years and be satisfied with.. i am in love with the 85mm f1.2 canon anyway... i wanted to know if it would be better to go 4/3rds.. size is a big factor for me.. and the f2 zooms .. that would be so nice

The oly stuff is limited in lenses. It would take 10 years of constenty introducing new lenses on an accelerated pace to get caught up to what Nikon or Canon already have. If you don't need a selection this is not a problem.

have you looked at the cost of the 4/3 lenses. those are not friendly. e300 is decent camera, but in my opinion just not a smart decision to buy into right now, just lacks a lot of compatability options. its really not that much smaller, my friend has it. i cant understand why you'd wanna change from a d-70 to that. if you didnt already have a system i'd understand, but, yea i dunno..i guess i am biased because i own a d70 but i have played with the e300. do you really need that fast of an aperture also? |

So lenses design for the camera is not as good as lenses that are already out? |

In that case, I would suggest that you try out the E-300 and 350D. E-300 is different, but I think when Olympus brings out compact primes, it would make a unobstructive street camera. SLR's frighten people for some reason. I'm hoping that the next generation E-300 will be even smaller. I am hoping for something like Panasonic Lumix DMC-LC1 or original Olympus Pen-F.
I tried the 300D, and the first word came into my mind was 'fisher-price' :)

thats what i have been thinking. i tried the e300 the other day and i liked the feel of it. fast lenses that small and 8mp.. i love the sound of that. although, i cant officially tell if i like a camera until i have shot a few days of heavy 1000+ shot use. i loved the d70 at first. now it sits quietly in the corner. but everytime i hijack my friends canon 1d and 85mm f1.2 i envy
i tried the canon 300d and didnt like it. like a crappy plastic imitation d30. i ALMOST bought the 20d but heard raving reviews about the d70 and liked the cheaper price..

Lenses built for a particular camera isn't as good as lenses that is already on the market for older cameras? |

NEVER touch a camera lika that if you can't afford it. My credit card is still having nightmares when I played with the 1D and D1X cameras. You will never be happy with your little sub $2000 camera. :)
That was one of the reasons I got the E-1, only decent body in sub-$2000 league. (Where are the digital F100 and EOS-3?)

I would imagine that those f/2 zooms are going to be very expensive. Probably the same price as the equivalent f/2.8 Canon L or pro Nikon lenses. |

evolt thread
The evolt has a great size - a perfect street camera, not a pocket camera, but certianly smaller than the d70 and rebel. The elimination of the prism finder bump is great design, which makes for a sleek and smooth contour. I find it very comfortable in the hand. Not a lot of lenses offered for 4/3, but it certianly has one of the best kit lenses available, and the Zuiko 50mm macro is fabulous. |

how does the 4/3 system lenses compare to standard? as in the quality. i heard that the 35mm lenses would only be good for about up to 20mp, but arent the 4/3 lenses smaller so they would only be good for like 15mp?? or something? |

That's the thing with digital cameras. They are cameras with computers in them. A newer, better, and faster computer will come out every 6 months or so. It's the same thing with digital cameras. When you buy a digital camera, you have to expect that a better one will come out within the next 6 months to a year. Newer models will have higher resolution, higher fps, a bigger buffer, a better processor, and maybe even some brand new technology that will make you want to buy it. |
