ok I know I've brought this up before, but I'm going to be getting a backpack within the next week. I've narrowed it down to two.
any ideas...

I'm kind of leaning toward the quantaray Q-pro as there's a lot of extra space on top for a sweatshirt or whatever else you may have.
Is there enough room in the quantaray for a 300d with a 75-300 4-5.6 mounted?

Thanks!

I've had the Mini Trekker AW for awhile now and it is great. It's nice to have the All Weather (AW) version just in case you get caught in some rain.
I'm amazed at how much crap (err...equipment) I can get in this thing. I've got D70 body, 4 lens, 2 flash, batteries filters, battery charger, cleaning supplies and the kitchen sink(well, not really the sink, but a lot of stuff). This is sturdy as heck too.
If you take a look on Ebay, you should be able to find a new one pretty cheap. That's where I got mine.
Edit: Added the D70 camera body

The Lowepro has quite some space in the two front pockets.

i dont know how much space you need, but ive got the micro trekker 200, and i can fit a d70 body, 50mm, 10.5mm, 18-70mm and batteries cords etc, my olympus point and shoot, and with room left over to fit a 80-200 2.8 in there with all that stuff if i was lucky enough to own one. i wouldnt buy anything quantaray. i worked at a wolf camera, that stuff just isnt so great. |

Do you think you could fit a 300d with 75-300 4-5.6 mounted and also is it pretty easily interchangeable so I could just toss the 75-300 in there and stick the body in with the 18-55 on it?
I don't necesarilly mind swapping lenses to put my gear away, but it would definately be nice if I'm heading out looking for animals to have the camera in the bag with the bigger lens mounted to it.
and at the same time not necessary to put the 75-300 back onto it to put it away.
Thanks.

How long is the camera with your biggest lens?

Yes. I put mine in there with my Sigma 70-300mm on my D70 with no problems.

well, the lens is 4.8 inches and the rebel is 2.9 inches deep so I would assume 7.7 inches.
I guess that would definately fit but would it also be secure with just an 18-55?

You can rearange the compartments any way you want to hold any size or shaped 35mm camera made as long as the length of the camera/lens does not exceed that of the pack.
Lowepros are versatile and tough. The only thing I know about Quantaray is that they make really crappy lenses. I've never seen one of their packs.

I have the micro trekker and love it. Very well designed piece of kit indeed.
However, I am outgrowing it. The next one I will get will be the mini trekker, and definitely the AW version.
There are bigger versions again, but by that stage if I have that much kit there is no way I'd ever be lugging it all round at once.

I have the mini trekker classic and figured a few ponchos from the dollar store would work just as well for the rain.

hrmm...Do you think your body would fit in there with the 75-300? I wonder if they have this stuff in stock at ritz...I might just have to go down with my gear and be very annoying and try them all out.

I can fit the body in with the 100-400 IS L lens, which is considerably larger I think than the 75-300.
Takes up a lot of the bad, making it a squeeze for other lenses, but it certainly fits.

I just bought a Micro Trekker 200 and am very happy with it. I've got my D70 in there with the 18-70 kit lens on it, plus a Sigma 70-300 I borrow from my boyfriend and there's a ton of space for more lenses and other stuff. The outside compartment seems fairly roomy as well, though the only thing I've put in there as of yet is a water bottle. The main reason I went for this one was it was the only one of it's size I could find that has a waist belt (I really like being able to distribute the weight of a pack this way) and also a chest strap. It also has lash straps on the bottom (potentially good for a tripod), which I didn't see on many other smallish packs. Things I discovered after recieving it (I ordered from B&H) are that it is fairly weather proof - interior pockets are sort of rubbery with heavy duty zippers. It also has nice little leather flaps that cover the zippers on the interior pockets so they don't jingle against your equipment. It's backside is also nice and cushy. I'm not sure how the Mini Trekker compares (other than I remember it being slightly bigger from when I was researching), but I'm very happy with this bag and with my old Lowepro shoulder bag that I used for my C-2100. I guess you could say that I hold their products in high regard. |

cool...thanks everyone. It's definately between the 200 micro and the mini now...I think it's going to come down to a trip to ritz.

My Micro Trekker 200 measures roughly 12.5 inches internally from top to bottom (i.e. from back of camera body to end of center lens compartment if you removed all the dividers). I can definately fit my D70 with a 70-300 attached and room to spare. |
