Since I tend to take outdoor shots and natural light shots mostly, I have not yet mastered my SB600. I have it working while detached from the camera, but can't seem to get it to work while attached. Can anyone help me out with the proper camera and flash settings to get this thing to work on camera. I would really appreciate not having to dig through the manuals to see what I am doing wrong. Thanks.

Have the SB600 set to Channel 3 and Group A and the Wireless Flash Option selected "On." Set you D70 to Command Mode in the Custom menu. Have the on-camera flash set in the up position. That should do it. |

In your D70 menu, go to option #19. Change the setting from "Commander" to "iTTL". On the SB600, turn it on, then hold down the on/off button and the MODE button at the same time to reset from Commander to iTTL.

I mainly use mine off camera aswell, but for the odd times I do want to use it on camera, rather than change any settings I just switch camera to auto. |

Interestingly enough, that didn't work, and I am not sure why. I will give these other suggestions a try. Thanks. |

Oops. Misread the question. Sorry. I was having problems shooting off camera, so that's how I read your question. Guess I wasn't too helpful. Sorry. |

Hold the phone here, I thought you could only use the SB600 off camera if it were controlled by the SB800. Are you saying there is a way to use it off of the camera without the SB800.

You can. I just learned how to get mine to work off camera last Thursday. Just follow my instructions on the top.

Yes, the D70 has built in Commander mode.
