Anyone here own one of these? Whats your experience? I am looking to buy one on ebay and get the slide feeder as well. I own the LS-20, but it takes too long to scan each slide one at a time, and the scsi card is annoying since it slows down the boot up time of my PC considerably.

Also, can I use any firewire interface or do I have to use their firewire card? (I have firewire built into my PC).

The LS-4000 is a nice unit. It defintiely will provide better results than the LS-20; better resolution and better dynamic range. A feeder would be nice, but I find that I need to change my settings so often that a feeder wouldn't necessarily gain me all that much.
You should be able to use any firewire interface, as long as the scanner does not get its power from the interface (I'm pretty sure it does not). Some firewire devices that rely on a powered (6-pin) interface do not work with unpowered (4-pin) interfaces. I don't think that's an issue in this case.

What setting do u change? On the LS-20 I tend to turn all the post-processing options off except for digital ice.

I'm dealing with at least three different film types on stuff that my Dad shot over 40 years. At times he shot Kodachrome, other times Ektachrome, you get the picture.
I use Ed Hamrick's VueScan to drive the LS-30, and I do find that I often tweak settings such as the infrared cleaning, number of scan passes. VueSc can can do multiple passes and average them, a great help with the LS-30 since the Nikon software for it does not support multi-pass sanning, and it really needs it on dense originals.
I normally am letting the scanner work on the next image while I do final tweaks and save the previous one, so no time is wasted waiting for the scan.

Do you own a LS-4000 itself? Have you worked with it before? Have anyone here?
