Well it's no secret that lighthouses are my thing ;) Many of you know that I work with the local groups to help fund-raise for the restoration of some of Long Island's lighthouses, such as Cedar Island in East Hampton

I've been working with ALL the lighthouse groups for many months now to organize Long Island's first Lighthouse Challenge to take place on May 14th & 15th, 2005. A lighthouse challenge is a weekend full of visiting all the lighthouses included in the Challenge to enjoy the areas, learn the history & meet others that share your interests...and lets not forget TAKE LOTS OF LIGHTHOUSE PICTURES :)

Yes, there are MANY crazy lighthouse lovers that already do this elsewhere. NJ & Maryland have there own lighthouse challenges. In 2003 there were 300 people that did BOTH of them & each one saw over 1000 participants individually.

There is a Mega Raffle with over 30 prizes and a sunset lighthouse cruise on May 14th. The proceeds benefit all the lighthouse groups.

If there are any history/lighthouse buffs interested in participating in this challenge, or if you'd like to support the effort by purchasing raffle tickets, you can find more information HERE

That sounds like fun, and a great photo-up! Maybe I can make it up there that weekend...

Not to quibble, Nancy, but it's Maryland, not Delaware that has a challenge. (Although it would be a great idea for Delaware...you could probably do it in one day!)

I've only done the New Jersey Challenge once, but let me tell you, it was a lot of fun. I would love to do Long Island, but scheduling won't let me this year...perhaps next year.

To everyone, even if you aren't really "into lighthouses", give it a go, you will have some great photo ops.

PS, Nancy, I think you mis-spelled your URL over at lighthousing.net ;)

Thanks for the correction Larry. My brain likes to mix those 2 states up regularly ;) I've edited to fix the mis-information.
And thanks for the heads up on the URL typo. That's what I get for not setting my signature up in my profile over there...lol

Sorry your already booked on those days this year. I'll look for you next yr :)
