The whole thing will be a lesser value tha your old (idle) pc, and take up less power, make less noise.
So.... Less=More ;-)
I'm not saying that this is the best solution, but it's A solution, and it's a FUN solution.
As they say: Size matters |
I hear ya ... cash matters too though, and really I won't be hosting a site anyway anytime soon, so it's all kind of theoretical for me.
I tend to prefer to figure out what's the oldest and slowest (and cheapest) equipment which could still perform the necessary functions, both to avoid wasting working gear, to save money, and it's fun (somtimes) too.
For example, around 1994 I had to go visit a prof at UC Berkeley because I had an optical drive and he had a disk but no drive. Down in the basement I saw a Mac 840av, just like the one I had (have) at home, so I asked him what he did with it, and he said it was hosting the Department's website ... I assume mine could host one today. I have a Mac SE and a US Robotics modem which together will function perfectly well as a fax machine and 10-box voicemail system ...
At my job (commercial print shop), we actually have working units of TWO Mac clones, used everyday for "mission critical" work.
