Playing around with doing my PaD a few nights ago, and came up with this shot. I was going to take a photo of some dried up flowers that were long past their prime, in a red glass vase. I noticed that when I turned on my lights, it projected the red from the vase onto the shadows of the wall along with the shadows of the flowers. I thought it was a cool effect, so I played with it some, but not for very long. Here's what I ended up with. Like it or hate it?

I like it but I would scrap the red border.
With the red vase and red border, your eyes want to follow around the frame, which I don't think is what you want.

It's an interesting effect. Personally, I don't think it's that notable on its own, but if you could end up with a few similar pictures (not of the same subject, but other "artistic" shots) it would make a good member of a 3 or 4 picture set.

It reminds me of some pictures I accidentally took completely out of focus one time (back when I had an old school film camera and couldn't immediately see my photos), but the colors turned out to be really nice and abstract and I put four of them in a frame on the wall. :)

I like it, nice accident, but if you didn't tell what it was i could't have recognise it.I think.

It dosen´t excite me, to be honest.

I do appreciate the honest answers! Thanks! I lean toward thinking it might be a concept to play with, but this particular shot doesn't do much for me.

xion, I think you're probably right about the red border. This is pretty much a "scrap" photo for me though, so I probably won't change it at this point. Fun thing about the PaD project is coming up with things I know I'd never find otherwise. As you can see, it's not always (seldom, actually) a piece of art - but it keeps me motivated and always looking for something new for the day!

Interesting, or just a bad ?

Can it be both?

My first impression is that it started out interesting and then ended up kinda bad.

This one is in the eye of the beholder....
Who am I to judge?

I should also add that I have a pretty fat folder of photo's that fit into that category. (Wow, how was that last sentence for a dash of alliteration???)

Before I read that it was a vase and flowers I thought it was a women dancing with a red dress and her hand outstrechted.

And right on through and out the door and allt he way to California... Great work pawdrix...

Pochard, it's a nice shot, a whole set of them would work well. Lose the border I agree.

Robt.

I like the concept but the image needs a bit more definition. Move the subject further from the light source to achieve a somewhat sharper shadow. Also increase the horizontal component to more clearly delineate the vase. Now if you can just maintain the subtlety of the original I believe you have a beautiful work.

I like it! (but lose the border ahaha)

I like it with or without knowing the actual object photographed. It has a very nice shape to it, very hourglass figure-ish. I love abstractions in art simply because you can assess the gut reaction better when ya really have no idea what you're looking at. Then you can study a thing and the process is much more interesting to consider.

Anyway, I babble. But I do like the photo, yes.
