I have the Archos 420 and hardly use it so far because I haven't had enough batteries for my camera to even shoot a lot of pictures, but now that I bought some extras, I will be using it. |

After Archos announcement of their 100GB Archos at PMA, I believed they dropped the prices of the lower GB ones by $50. |

Some of the more expensive models provide color (as does the Epson viewer, and others I'm sure), but at $10 per gig of storage, the Archos is much more economical than gigabyte flash cards. |
The reviews on this model seem very spotty... recurring complaints about battery life, lockups and build quality.
I have no firsthand experience so can't say for sure, I'm just relaying what I read.

Hmm. No firsthand experience here either, but the hands-on reviews I read were pretty possitive. Though, Circuit City stopped carrying them like 6 months ago, so maybe there were some problems with them.

I think Good Guys, and CompUSA started to sell them now. |

I have a 40Gb one of these, which in time I'll put a bigger HDD in.

Same concept as the popular x-drive, but (from memory) x5 the speed for downloading your card. It is blindingly fast. You can't preview, but I don't really need that, and I have yet to have a single file not copy properly. I have never actually timed it but basically it downloads 1Gb of data in about 3 mins, compared to about 15 mins on many of the other similar units.
Another nice feature of the "Compact Drive" is that it takes x4 AA, so you can replace them easily, but even better can act as a battery charger if you use rechargables and plug it into the mains. It also came with a car charger, which is a very nice little bonus indeed.
Can't praise this unit enough. My only critism is the hinge for the front cover is not very sturdy and tends to come unclipped, but that really is trivial.
P.S. The link there is just from a Google search. I have no idea if that's the best price or place to buy from (and is in Australia anyway).

That didn't take me to a specific product page. Which item is it?
-Terry
