Gday,

I was sitting around my grandfathers house this afternoon/evening when this little critter decided to park himself in front of our front window. He was a self-assured sort of a character and didn't so much as flinch even when I had my camera all of 6 inches away from him. In the end he spent about half an hour just sitting there watching us consume various forms of snack food in large quantities.

Unfortunately he didn't turn up until about 6pm so the lighting sucked - I was forced to crank the ISO up to 800 for the first time with my new camera (given I don't have noise reduction software of any description all I can say is - Hail to the dSLR and it's decent sized sensor!). So in between the sketchy lighting, and hard to avoid window reflections only about 2 of the 30 shots I took were even vaguely serviceable. Shame really - the next time I get a model half this cooperative I'll likely be paying them 100 bucks an hour.

Anyway, seeing as this is pretty much the first shot I've taken with my new camera of a living organism other than my immediate family or hyperactive tenterfield terrier I thought I'd see what the good folk of DPC thought...

Cheers

Anders

I think you did a good job, especially with the lighting problems. Would have been good to highlight more of his yellow markings. Do you know what type of lizard it is?

Thanks - I don't know - perhaps some form of water dragon. As for the yellow markings I did bump the yellow channel a bit, but I might try a bit more. I would like him to be a bit more vibrant - but with the lighting so dull I'm not sure if it's workable - if anyone wants to have a try feel free!

Here's a quick try.. I didn't do too much, saturation adjustments and applied an USM.

Thanks - thats better - I should go and push the processing a bit more - I was worried about it becoming noisy but that doesn't seem to be much of a problem
