I just bought a nice frame for this photo to gift a friend. When I took the shot I initially thought to reverse it for framing(if it came out good)with the heads upward but now I'm thinking differently.

The picture 8X10, is floating in clear glass with nice brown, wood stepped layer outside. Depending on which way I turn the picture might even mean a frame switch. Heads down...glass/wood, heads up might mean silver.

The question, disregarding the frame at the moment, is heads up OR heads down?

Thanx in advance

I think you are going to get a very mixed response for this. It took me a few minutes to decide. Upside down one for me. Nice work.

In color, I would say heads down. In B&W, heads up. Just a preference... fliopping the shot gives it a much different appeal. You should ask your friend what they prefer. If you are weighting the photo (matted) in the frame, then one side up will matter, but otherwise it should work both up and down.

Heads up does it for me.

Heads down. It is a reflection and meant to be reversed (in my mind), why would you reverse the "real" aspect of the pic?

Edit: Nice work by the way :-)

I like it more if you have it the 'natural' way - the first image. (the one you misnamed 'flip').

I like the one with the heads down. The other one makes me a little dizzy to look at :) Nice shot, btw

Head up...heads down...heads up ...heads down???

I'm going heads down because when you look at the image it draws the eye, slowly, up and down four times or so and I like that.

One thing though, is that "heads up" you can see guy to the right laughing due to the huge bus that brushing their backs as I was snapping away and that only comes through heads up. I also signed the wrong side.

...too late

Thanx for your advice.

Another vote for Heads Down. A very nice gift, too.

I think heads ups. something different something out of the ordinary sothing to catch attention but they both look unique anyway so it really doesnt matter

The true perspective is a very interesting POV. The flipped image, however, with its surrealistic quality, lends more to the imagination of the viewer and causes a questioning of the eye. It makes one think, and for that I believe it is more iconic, more memorable.

I never took the shot with even a thought of using the true perspective. I had heads up in mind the whole way through until I was buying frames and that kicked off the internal debate.

Great arguments made for both views. I appreciate all the input and might forward this thread to the giftees as they both will have the option to play with the framing.

Nice rich, brown frames and oversized glass. Maybe I'll leave it up to them along with all your advice. This is cool.
