does any one have/use this combination?

Can you lead me to some shots that you have with this combo? Is the loss of quality great?

I'm buying the 300/2.8 next week and I own a 2X converter. To be honest I don't like the 2X on my 600/4. There doesn't seem to be a very noticable loss of sharpness with that combo but there is definatly a loss of contrast.

I'm saving my pennies for the 300L 2.8 and to use my 2x converter with it.
I have heard on other boards that it is great combo and saves big $ on the options for going long.

I've used the 300 2.8 and the 400 2.8 with both teleconverters. The sharpness loss was minimum, but then again, it was with film.

thx folks, I am thinking of this combo to get some reach, but am hesitant if there is going to be quality loss, I dont have any interest in the 300mm as a 300 or even with the 1.4x since I have the 100-400mm

thx,
nsbca if you get them I would love to see some shots.
