I just joined five minutes ago as a full member. Yipeeeeee!!!

I'm a Chef by trade and have a good eye for plating, setting up buffets, garnishing etc. AND I love taking pictures where I've made a few dollars on the side. So why not mesh two things things that I really enjoy doing???

I know there are flaws to these pix such as improper lighting and the dof in the front of the plates is off BUT I got hungry and ate the model. I used a Nikon 50mm 1.8, tripod at around 1/8 f13, ISO 200.

Any thoughts?//www.dpchallenge.com/portfolio_edit.php?IMAGE_ID=148270

Just so you know. You want to just include the number instead of the whole IMAGE_ID stuff.

Okay...now my critique (as a novice)....

The first one is my favorite....but, The lighting isn't even.
The second one ....I don't care for the shadow under the plate and the "hot"spot of light at the top.
The third one....Seems a little out of focus, could have something to do with resizing for posting.

Overall the food looks great and the pictures are good.

The third one was handheld under nasty flourescent lights, taken quickly while I was teaching a class.

I'll try to get rid of that shadow and I think I might have a few more shots that are better defined but came out a bit dark.

Thank you for the look and thoughts.

There are some beautiful shots there but not too much info regarding lighting or lenses(at least not in the top ten).

WOW! The competition is already getting thick. I quit!!!

And why, tell me, did I waste all those years in France learning how to cook when all I had to do was get an appreciative dog to work my magic for???

Man, that's rough......
heheheheh

a little hair of the dog that bit the cat....

Here's a pic I took this morning(screwed up the white balance)of my cat trying to figure out how to uncork a wine bottle. Note:the bowl of catfood on the counter.

He prefers Zinfandel to the Cabs but as everyone knows the lighter varietals all work well with Fancy Feast Turkey Dinner.

But of course!

And to think you just spent your hard-earned money to participate in a thread like this. Warms your heart, doesn't it?

All about lighting. Even Spam looks appetizing:

Hey! How'd you do that? I thought there'd have to be no lighting at all for Spam to look appetizing.
