I had been having trouble with my D100 -- it was firing blank (black) frames from time to time, and it always seemed to happen in the middle of important shots, to boot.

I just got it back from Nikon ($321.18 later). I must say it sounds like I got a lot for that money, though. Here's what the invoice says:

RPL APERATURE OPERATION
RPL SHUTTER MECHANISM
RPL CCD
FIRMWARE UPGRADE
ADJ AUTO FOCUS OPERATION
ADJ AE OPERATION
GENERAL CHECK & CLEAN
CLN CCD

... so is it my imagination or does it sound like the practically replaced most of the guts of the camera? I assume that "RPL" means "Replaced"...?

Congrats on your new, old camera!

That's what I'm hoping :) I would think it should be pretty much like new, or even better considering I have the newest firmware upgrade now!

That's actually cheap. I've sent in 10Ds for customers and had em come back with $500 in repairs. Congrats on your retread. May you have many more happy shooting days. :)

Geez, seems like you got a lot for your money on that repair! I read it the same way you do, I can't fathom what RPL would be besides "replace."

I'm wondering if this was their way of saying, "We have no idea what was causing the problem, so we just replaced most everything" :)

So long as it's fixed, I'll be a happy camper... I was almost jumping like a school kid when I saw the UPS guy pull up!

Hmmm, if RPL means 'replace' and CLN means 'clean', then why would they replace AND clean the CCD? (Maybe they got it dirty while replacing it?...;-)

Older technology. They probably replaced the CCD with a backhoe.

They got a new one, cleaned the old one and placed it in a new camera and charged for the whole process.

I thought the same thing when I saw that... It'll definitely be nice to have an extra clean, new CCD, I must say!

Granted, since I've already switched lenses, it's probably already filled with dust...
