are pretty useful. I recently bought my first one, and Macro shots will never be the same. I wonder if their are many people that work with 2-3 different sized tripods.

In addition to a regular large tripod, I also have a Bogen / Manfrotto 709 mini tripod that is fantastic. Weighs next to nothing, and compact. I use it some for a tabletop tripod but where it really shines is when walking around a city, expecially in the evening. You can stop and take longer exposures pretty much anywhere you can find a relatively flat surface to set it down on. Very handy.

Some inexpensive and ultra-lightwieght alternatives are available at REI -- and they also have a handy clamp assembly which can be very adaptable when travelling.

The REI models, in addition to being mini-tripods, can be fastened to a railing or lamppost with the included strap.

It works well on small camera. Not very good for SLR.

My hubby just bought me one, I think it is the cutest thing!! Can't wait to play with it! Thanks for sharing the ideas for it!

Did you get the $10 or $15 model? I actually have to go get one myself -- I'll be anxious to hear how it works.

Ritz camera also carries a tiny tripod (about 6" high) with gooseneck legs, which can be bent around every which way. It really only works with a really light camera as a macro tripod, and you can also use it to turn any other suitable handy item into an impromptu monopod:

Mine cost $24, but it seems really strong, so I didn't mind.
