My company just got finished with a re-org and I now have different cities I cover than I previously had. Before I just had St. Louis, MO , Milwaukee and Madison, Wi .I'm just glad I still have a job.

I now cover:
Ohio - Cinci , Dayton, Columbus, Cleveland
Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh
Michigan - Grand Rapids, Plymouth, Detroit, Bloomfield
Indiana - Indy

Anybody got any Ideas on what and where to go shoot around here. I will be going to Pittsburg in a few weeks for a day or so.

The Columbus Zoo is certainly worth a look. I was there back in December and although there was way too much snow on the ground that caused a lot of the exhibits to be closed it was still very enjoyable. The exhibits are mostly behind glass instead of fencing and that makes it much better to shoot through.

Thanks, anybody have any other ideas on some of the other places I mentioned?

Might want to check out this thread by Pittsburghers.

Cleveland has thelake, the flats, a big airshow in the summer
Akron, not far south of the mistake by the lake, has Stan Hywet Hall and if you get to see a blimp take off - WOW. 45 degree climb!
When you get to Pittsburgh let me know - do you fly in or drive or ?
Our St pat parade is 9 am on mar 12 - the second largest in the country (boston is #1). Sucker runs 4 or 5 hours.

we have bridges...
and our downtown, as seen from the west end overlook.

Well, as a South-Eastern Michiganian, I'll try to think of some things in/near/around Plymouth, Detroit and Bloomfield. There are some divergent territories there...Detroit has a well-established (and earned) down-trodden reputation. There are some great old and new buildings to shoot. Detroit was the place to be back when. The Detroit river/Ambassador Bridge views of Windsor, Canada, and miscellaneous other things. Bloomfield and Plymouth are upscale suburbs of Detroit. They are pretty stale suburban cities, some things to shoot, but nothing of great reputation. Nice lakes, parks, etc, but nothing that is a must see IMO. Plymouth has a nice downtown area with shops/restaurants. Very much suburbia at its finest/worst depending on your view.

If you like zoos, the Detroit zoo is decent. If you like golf courses, we've a ton of those in Michigan (about 800 public tracks I think - 3rd most in the US - not bad for a northern state with a short season!).

Just got home from a late hockey game (us hacks still have a season) - brain is fried. Will try to think of more tomorrow.

thanks Chris and Matt, I will be flying into the area then getting a rent car. I usually dont have much time as I fly in one day and leave the next, unless we have a big project and I need to be there a few days. Since this is a new area for me I might have to spend a day or 2 in each place to make sure I get my AutoCAD files updated and familiar with the buildings I handle.

Hey James,
Sorry to hear you won't be coming to Milwaukee anymore, but very glad to hear you still are actively employed! Been through the layoff cycle, it's not fun. Sounds like some new photo opportunities coming your way, that can't be all bad. Sorry I can't help with any of the new areas, as they are not areas I've traveled in recent years.

So you will be free for a sunrise shoot on the day you leave? I am aout 25 miinutes from the airport here, and since 90% of hte hotels are there, getting together should be easy.
