I got some extension tubes, inexpensive ones, that mount to a canon EOS body on once side and EOS lens on the other. In between are threaded tubes. All aluminum parts.

They have no contacts for AF or aperture adjustment, so I need to find an old manul lens (50mm or so) to use - it need not be Canon, but that may be easiest to mount IF it mechancally fits the EOS bayonet.

Any one have experience fitting a manual lens of any brand to an EOS body mount? Any recomendations on a lens?

I can of course use these tubes for their intended purpose OR as a basis for a tilt-shift lens or a bellows type macro deal.

Offhand I don't know of any Canon-made EOS lens that has manual adjustment of aperture. That's the problem with elimination of the old-style aperture setting ring.
The best option, IMO, is to find an M42-mount lens (commonly referred to as Pentax Screw Mount). Some very fine lenses were made in this mount, and are available relatively cheaply. Do a search on e-bay for a Zeiss 58mm Biotar.
An M42-EOS adapter can be had for as little as $25, and very high quality adapters are around $75.

What about an adapter that let's you mount old Canon FD lenses to an EOS mount. I've seen those on Ebay. Are they any good? I assume that you must do manual focusing.

Can one get infinity focus this way? There are adapters for $10-15. There is a vivitar M42 mount 300mm lens for $26. I will no doubt end for more, but still cheap. Maybe $75 for a 450mm equivalent...if it focuses to infinity what a steal!

Yes, the M42 adapters give infinity focus without any extra glass.

The FD adapters however do need extra glass to achieve infinity focus, and most are said to be of poor quality.

Here is a page that gives a lot of info and has adapters for mating various makes of lenses to Canon EOS bodies. Note that the M42 adapter sold there is much nicer than the $25 versions sold elsewhere, but of course you're paying three times as much for it, LOL.

The great thing about that one, apart from it being black, is that it has the ridge at the back to depress the aperture stop down pin which most adapters don't have. The only other ones I've seen with this are the Russian Jolos brand available here.

I got my eos-m42 adapter teh other day - took a few shots.
here is one at F2.8
and one useing a shot extension tube - this is cropped WAY down and still had to reduce it to get 640 max size (it's a sweet potato)

not sure what bod said - the stop down pin is always depressed with the one i got, so the smaller the aperture the harder to see to focue, but the light meter is accurate.

(Digital rebel, $20 vivitar 135mm f2.8 lens, $15 adapter, $24 extension tubes - who said this had to be an expensive hobby?)

Finally, some nice weather outside and a flower or 3 in my garden!
Had a chance to take some time to take a pic, and these are with my rebel, M42 manual vivitar 135mm 2.8 lens and adapter tube.

Glad you managed to find a working solution.
