Nikon Club Australia run a photographic competition every now and again, I have never entered anything outside of DPC and my local camera club before. Well the competition for December was "Animal Love" so I entered my challenge photo for indecision called "Read my mind".
But I cropped it with the recommendations from Gordon who gave me tips on how it could become a more powerful photo.
Well blow me down with a feather, I won! You can view the page here with it. Link here
So now I have a Nikon SB800 coming my way as the prize, Woohoo..
I just can't believe it, when I opened the page I was excited that they used my photo on the page then when I scrolled down I found my name as the overall winner.
Sorry but I just have ta tell the world! Bob

Congratulations Bob (& Jazz). Great job by both of you. Because the Nikon Club link doesn't work (for me at least), can you post the winning shot (i.e. cropped) here? I'd love to see how Gordon's advice turned out. |

Here is the shot for those who can't access the site.
Edit to add judges comments.
Judges' comments: Everything in this picture is perfect, with no distractions, and it leapt out at us from the screen. The glinting light in the dog's dark eyes is the first thing you see (in the full-size image you can even make out the silhouette of the owner(s)!)... then all the fine details of the different textures, right down to the old ball held in the teeth and the fine hairs around the chin. And it's a good portrait of a pet ΓΆ€” the classic high wide-angle also allows us to see the its pose. And it's such a doggy dog... you just know its favourite pasttime involves running around after a favourite tennis ball.
Thanks everyone...

Thanks Bob. It's a terrific shot, and a pretty nice dog, too. I agree the crop is better, and surprisingly the bit of wood is no big deal & seems quite natural, like the end of a fence, maybe. Cheers. |

Yeah the wood was my main concern as well, it was an integral part for the indecision challenge but not for this one.

heya Gurilla, Way to go! If you're gonna win a competition, might as well make it one with a prize, right?! The link looks like it is up and working now, by the way. GREAT shot, congrats on the win, well deserved! |

Awesome! So happy for you. It truly is a great shot.
Be sure to give the dog an extra treat and a good scratch behind the ears for helping you out.

The judges comments show that your image really gets it's message accross to the viewer. And, after all, isn't that what we are all trying to do with our photographs? Keep up the great work!
