Wow... this thing is like a Mac Truck. Diopter correction, Depth of field preview...and it's huge! Too bad I have to wait until tonight for the lens. tick....tick...tick.... sigh. Re-defining anticipation. |

PSST!
Even if you don't have a lens yet, you can still update your camera in your profile.
Then you'll be badass....Congrats!

I got my 10D a bit less than a year ago (happily forfeiting the slow-focusing Dimage 7). The thing is great and it has given me many happy hours of shooting.
For me, at least, I wish I had also invested in the optional "talent packet" advertised with it. Had I bought it then maybe one of my Challenge shoots would have scored above 5.0

My right elbow is still sore from my first day out shooting with my Rebel (over a month ago now). I suppose i had a death grip on it for fear of dropping it.
Welcome to the dlsr club! What lens(es) are starting with?

I prefer the 10D to the 20D for the way it sits in the hand. The 20D feels like a toy to me (not a bad one, mind you) compared to it. Enjoy! Don't go out and buy quantities of lenses, unless you can afford to. Otherwise, get one, the best you can afford.
On a budget, the EF 50mm f/1.8 would be on top of my list.

Choosing a lens is a pleasant form of torture....my brain cranks up and refuses to settle as I ponder over the seemingly limitless choices, features, uses, prices, makes.. ahhh.. stop the voices... |

yep yep yep.
With a budge in mind...my nest lens will likely be the Sigma 70-300 APO super 2, for about $220.
Then it is time to open teh wallet up WIDE...10-22 or 12-24 or similar and then perhaps a 28-105ish 2.8, or a 70-200 2.8...

Playing with manual mode today... this is going to be a seriously fun camera. At work so the images are all non-spectacular, but good practice. Like the two dials so far for shutter speed and aperature. Getting comfy with the settings. Think I'll keep it. :) |

Stick a vertical grip on the bottom of the 20D and it'll quit feeling like a toy ;) I've used my grip so much that either camera feels off balance without it.

Just get a spare battery and a charger you can use in the house and car and use the $150.00 on something else :)

You're in the same boat as me then -- that's the same thing my girlfriend says. So ... wanna get together and shoot some model planes?

I was thinking of both with the grip attached actually.
