Ok I am a highschool student that has had pretty much no lessons in photography (yeah I haven't even taken the class at my school) and I was just kind of wondering what you guys thought of my deviantART gallery (like if I am any good and things like that). The link to my gallery is below:

//darkornithopter.deviantart.com/gallery/

Thank you all so much.

Not too shabby, Chase! Enter more of your work here and see if you can break 5.00 threshold in scores. Your B&W work looks pretty decent.

allright I don't think I am gonna be able to make the bridges challenge but I'll be sure to make the next one. I would love to get over 5.00.

I really like some of your shots ... keep it up :-)

hehe...yeah, it does look pretty good.

But I HAVE to ask!

Why is it that every gallery on deviantart must have a suicide picture? Don't they get old after a while?

:0)

I honestly don't know I took the picture because I was board one day and I thought it would make a fun picture to take, maybe its the same story with everyone else.

It's the dark broody artistic thing to do!

You have some great stuff. Your black and whites are good, and I really like the shadow in the cup picture.

hmm that was one that I was a little torn on because I liked the shot but I didn't like how the bottom of the cup blended with the shadow.

I guess you could say that.

Good stuff. The B&W is especially creative. If I can be critical, I'd suggest working on the lighter areas of your B&W shots, so they aren't so blown out.

re: the cup. The fact that the bottom blends into the shadow is a positive for me.

I think I like the dark hallway the best. I find it much more effective at showing the dark and brooding artistic style than the suicide shot. I sincerly hope that was not a real gun. For me disturbing does not equal art. I also like the cup picture quite a bit.

I suppose it's artsy thing thing to do with our cameras. As a photogragher, one would capture every type of emotion possible. Wither it's happy , mad, depressed, what have you. However, I have spent some great time on that website. I have came to a conclution, that some folks on there are little off. I can't really tell. I have shot a few sad shots myself, all the meanwhile I was very happy personaly when I took the photo(s). So really, who is to say. But, I do keep wondering about a few profiles. :)

Now about your photos. I have to say the hallway shot is wonderful, and I like grain effect on the cup, although (personly) I don't really like the grain effect. Here it works wonderfuly. Umm, it appears you have a talent with camera. I do hope to see you improve and/or become more edulged with this form of art.

yeah me to I would love to take classes, but I am going to have to wait till next year to get a period open to do so.

yeah I was happy with the grainyness of the picture even though I normally don't like photos to be grainy eaither.

I have heard from a lot of people that they think I have talent with a camera. Honestly I don't know where it comes from.

Don't worry about where it comes from, and don't doubt those who tell you you have it, when there are so many. Just put it to use & allow yourself to get better.

I am also woring if there is any talent in me. Sometimes I think yes sometimes no.
I am much older than you(though still very young ;-)) and I realised that, hell, if I like to shot I shot. I sometimes (sicerity moment) ask the others this question anticipating the answer: Yeap, Tiberius there's the talent. Keep shoting.
Don't worry about the talent. It might be there. I don't know how to judge it as I am far for being a critic.
So, after the blablabla here's my advice:
You have a camera, you like it, your talent is somewhere in you so: keep on shoting. I take my camera everywhere. I see something I like, I shot. I go home and see the stuff on PC and say: Ups! Doesn't look like I wanted to be. And I start to ananlize a bit why is that and try to learn how to do it better next time. At the beginning I was saving almost all of my pics thinking that they might be good.
Now if I dont like it, man, delete the crap. Go shot again!
Try to master your camera to the best, squize everything out of it and dare.
DPC it is a great site and I'm sure you will learn alot. Post your questions without shame when you are confused. Some nice guys here will help you.
Now: i realylike your BW tries. The cup is really cool.
You have the talent. I wish I had your age when I started.
Good Luck

hey,
just wanted to say that if your school offers a photography class...TAKE IT then REPEAT IT (especially if its film).

judging by the quality of your shots, and depending on the prestige of your school, the class will at worst be a study hall 3/5 days a week with 2 days spent developing. Keep shooting, 5+ score is imminent.

good luck!

yeah we are supposed to have pretty good photography class at my school. I would be taking it now if I had a open period to take it.

You Suck.

No, I'm just kidding, dude. Definitely some potential. I myself am fairly new to serious photography, so I'm no expert judge of skill, but I like what I see. The more experience you have, obviously, the better you'll get, so keep shooting!

Very, very nice! Keep with it. It will give you joy all through your lifetime.
