Is anyone familiar with Mpix.com? It offers some additional choices that aren't on DPC that seem interesting. Otherwise, would anyone recommend another site with similar differences in choices? Thanks for the feedback.

Tranquil, your link is not working for me. Maybe you got a typo in it.

I use them regularly and I've never been dissapointed. Awesome prints

Yeah, they have this metallic paper too. I think you can ask for sample prints of all 3 papers that they use to print on. The metallic one is kinda cool, but I'm not sure what kind of photos would be good with that.

High-key stylized photos would be interesting. I think they recommended it for landscapes, too, makes the colors "pop" off the page. I read something about it somewhere but I've never used them -- I'd experiment with a landscape, portrait, and something else.

You can always make up a "test image" with examples of the kind of work you do -- a 4x6 with the some example images as well as color blocks and gradients would be a sensible thing to have handy for testing/calibrating any printer/service.

I absolutely love mpix.com. Such quality prints and so many sizes to choose from. When I do photo shoots, I offer to have the prints processed professionally (other than giving them the CD with their photos on it and letting them choose to go to Walmart or Walgreens, etc.) If they allow me to have them processed, they love the quality. They don't all choose to do this, but some do. It's the only service I use now. An 8 x 10 for $1.99 - I can't get that at Walmart or Walgreens. I've even received my prints in the mail as fast as 24 hours later!!!! I highly recommend mpix.com!

You can get that at Costco if you're a member ... they don't offer the metallic paper, but I've been happy with the Fuji Lustre prints so far. But it's always good to know about other quality resources out there ... I'm actually curious about the metallic now ... : )

At a glance, the prices look good for smaller print sizes. You would be better off at DPC Prints for bigger sizes though. Some of the print sizes are more than half the cost!!

Thanks for your replies... would someone explain all of the different choices as far as papers and finishing and which works for which subjects (in general)... they sound promising, I just am a little confused.

Mpix is great, the prints i have gotten from them have been perfect. They look exactly like they do on my screen.

And the metallic prints are interesting too. Not great on everything but add a very interesting effect.

How would you compare the quality from MPix to Winkflash (or any other Fuji Frontier)? I've been considering MPix, the difference in price is too much, I'll stick with Winkflash unless someone with a lot of experience tells me that Fuji is crap compared to Kodak.

Edit: I'd send in a few 4x6's to each place to find out for myself, but the shipping alone would make that a little questionable.

I'm all about using Kodak portra endura professional quality paper, but if there's a cheaper source to order from, I'd love to know! Mpix prices are 4x5, 5x5, 4x6 for .29, 5x7 for .99 and 8x10 for 1.99 and there's all sorts of other available sizes that say professional not snapshot, which I also love! I haven't been brave enough to try the metallic paper, but the sample they sent was awesome!!! Put a redhead in green clothes, and oh yeah, try the metallic for that one!

I also use MPix and love them. The quality of the prints is terrific and they package everything really well. I usually get my prints in 3-4 days...half the price and the same time it takes my local printer but saves me driving 30 miles each way. (Yes, that's "local" in the country.) :-)

Never heard of winkflash - wow, what prices! I'll try them for my next pics. I have been using walmart (upload, pick up in an hour, fuji prints). I may try mpix and compare the two.

I used to use Costco as well...trust me, the Mpix prints blow frontier out of the water. Make sure you get their profiles and the colors will be incredible. Black and white is awesome as well.

I have 40x50 landscapes on the metallic. Have also done & white on it, it looks like an old tin type. This paper gives a unique almost 3D look to a print. I love the stuff!

I have never found another site that offers true black and white digital prints. Even EZ-Prints comes out slightly tinted. I love mpix.

Just got back some pictures I uploaded to Mpix and they are awesome. I got my pictures in 48 hours from the time I placed the order. I could not believe how fast the turnaround time was. I actually had some pictures of my son that were professionally done a few months ago printed. I scanned a 5x7 print and had an 11x14 printed. The only reason I did this was because the photographer that we used wanted $95 for an 11x14. I told her that $95 was way too high. Mpix sells an 11x14 for $6.99. Pretty BIG difference.

The funny thing was that the photographer kept emphasizing that the price was so high because of the Kodak Endura paper that was used. Obviously the paper isn't THAT expensive, becuase Mpix uses the same thing.

I would definitely recommend Mpix. They are EXCELLENT prints and the turnaround time is FAST.
